Aduana Stars sack coach Yussif Abubakar

Aduana Stars have relieved coach Yussif Abubakar of his duties following a poor run in the Caf Confederation Cup group stage.

The 49-year-old came on board in November 2016, spending less than two years at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa Ahenkro.

The Fire Club clinched the Ghana Premier League title last season under his guidance, but faced pressure from supporters following the team’s failure to claim a win so far in the Caf Confederation Cup group stage.

"Aduana Stars have terminated the contract of Yusif Abubakar although he had two months left with us," Aduana's communication director Evans Oppong told Goal.

"There are lots of reasons to this decision but that's not for public consumption. He did his best for us during his stay in Dormaa Ahenkro so we're very grateful to him for his services and we wish him well in his future endeavors," he added.

Oppong also revealed that they're in talks with several coaches including former Hearts of Oak and Inter Allies boss Kenichi Yatsuhashi.

"A new coach will be officially unveiled very soon. There have been negotiations with many coaches including Kenichi," he said.

"If we'll even appoint a foreign coach, he must be someone who has a strong character and good track record. He must also know the local terrain well since they won't be room for errors," he added.

Assistant coach W.O Tandoh will fill the void in the interim until a new coach is appointed, according to Oppong.

Aduana Stars will play against DR Congo’s A.S Vita Club on July 18.
