The third round of the AFC Asian Cup qualification were held from June 8 to 14 across six centralised venues. A total of 24 teams participated in this round to battle it out for the 11 slots available in the 2023 Asian Cup.
The teams were equally divided into six groups and played single round-robin matches. The group winners and the five best runners-up across all groups qualified for the main event.
Group A had the likes of Jordan, Kuwait, Indonesia and Nepal. Meanwhile, all matches in Group B were hosted by Mongolia. Philippines, Palestine and Yemen also had hosting duties.
Three south Asian teams in Thailand, Maldives, and Sri Lanka were joined by Uzbekistan in Group C. Whereas, India were placed in Group D along with Afghanistan, Cambodia, and Hong Kong.
Malaysia hosted the Group E matches. They were up against Bahrain, Turkmenistan, and Bangladesh. While Singapore, from Group F, traveled to Kyrgyzstan along with Myanmar and Tajikistan.
