Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
Bayern remain top of the Bundesliga, just one point ahead of Borussia Dortmund and they will face Freiburg next weekend. However, they will turn their attentions to the Champions League now, as they welcome Benfica on Tuesday. Meanwhile Union drop to sixth and they face Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday, before returning to Bundesliga action next weekend against Koln.
Bayern certainly didn't make it easy for themselves, but they are back to winning ways after a thrilling 5-2 victory over Union Berlin. It looked comfortable for the visitors after 35 minutes, as they led 3-0, after a brace from Lewandowski and a goal from Sane. However, the hosts responded and made it 3-1 just before the break. Coman then extended Bayern's lead on the hour mark, but Ryerson made it 4-2 just five minutes later after a quick counter. Union had numerous chances to score more, but couldn't find a way past Neuer and Muller made it 5-2 late on to wrap up the three points.
90' FULL-TIME: UNION BERLIN 2-5 BAYERN MUNICH
88' Almost! Gnabry should go for goal himself as he works space for a shot in the box, but instead he lays it off to Kimmich on the overlap, who then chips a cross into the middle looking for Lewandowski. However, the striker can't reach it and Union clear the danger.
86' Bayern's three consecutive away wins are also the longest current run in the top-flight and it looks like they are set to make that four wins on the bounce.
84' Stoppage in play now as Voglsammer is down receiving some treatment after an aerial clash in midfield. However, the Union striker should be fine to continue shortly.
82' There's not left long to play now, just under 10 minutes, plus any additional time to be added on. It doesn't look like Union have enough time left to get anything out of this game.
S. Gnabry
K. Coman
80' Another Bayern change now, with Coman heading off the pitch and he has been replaced by Gnabry.
D. Upamecano
Assist
79' Upamecano sprinted forward from the back and stretched the Union defence, who just didn't get close enough to him and he then easily picked out Muller, who produced an excellent finish.
T. Müller
Goal
79' GOAL! BAYERN LEAD 5-2! Another quick counter that leads to a goal! Upamecano races forward from the back, getting all the way to the edge of the penalty area, before laying it off to Muller to his left. Muller then picks his spot and curls the ball into the top right corner of the net, with Luthe having no chance of stopping that.
77' The game has settled down in the last few minutes, as we haven't seen any goalmouth action for a while as Bayern regain control of the ball in midfield.
K. Möhwald
G. Haraguchi
75' The other substitution sees Haraguchi replaced by Mohwald.
A. Voglsammer
S. Becker
75' A couple more changes by Union coming up, with Becker the first to come off and he has been replaced by Voglsammer.
73' Union Berlin have not lost any of their last 21 Bundesliga matches at home - the longest active run at home in the top-flight - while Bayern are unbeaten for five away games - the joint-longest active run away from home in the Bundesliga (with Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen).
71' It will be interesting to see how all of the changes effect the game, as so many by both teams may take some of the pace out of it. Although that will be exactly what Bayern want at the moment.
D. Upamecano
L. Hernández
69' The third Bayern change sees Hernandez head off and he has been replaced by Upamecano at centre-back.
M. Sabitzer
C. Tolisso
69' Tolisso also makes way for Sabitzer.
B. Pavard
J. Stanišić
69' Bayern now make a triple substitution of their own following the Union goal. Stanisic is one of those coming off and Pavard is his replacement.
67' What a game we have on our hands now! Can Union score a couple more and make it 4-4? I wouldn't put it past them as they have been excellent on the counter in the second half.
K. Behrens
Assist
65' Behrens and Ryerson have only been on the pitch a matter of seconds and they are already involved in the thick of it! Behrens turning provider for Ryerson, who coolly converted from close range.
J. Ryerson
Goal
65' GOAL! IT’S 4-2! Just moments after Bayern extended their lead, Union have pulled another goal back and it’s game on once again! Behrens did brilliantly down the left wing to get into the penalty area, all the way to the byline and then pick out Ryerson in the six-yard box. Ryerson simply couldn’t miss from close range and he fired it past Neuer!
K. Behrens
T. Awoniyi
64' The third Union change sees Awoniyi replaced by Behrens.
J. Ryerson
C. Trimmel
64' Trimmel is another to head off the pitch and he has been replaced by Ryerson.
C. Teuchert
G. Prömel
64' Union have made a triple change now, with Promel the first to come off and he has been replaced by Teuchert.
J. Musiala
L. Sané
62' Bayern have made a substitution following their fourth goal, with Sane the man coming off and he has been replaced by Musiala.
T. Müller
Assist
60' This time it is Union who get caught out on the break, with Muller feeding Coman down the right and the winger does the rest with a superb finish to make it 4-1.
K. Coman
Goal
60' GOAL! COMAN MAKES IT 4-1! Just as it looked like Union would go on and score another, they have been caught out at the back by the visitors! Coman did well down the right wing, racing into the penalty area and he beats Luthe from a tight angle, firing the ball into top right corner of the net.
59' It's counter after counter by the hosts right now, with the Bayern defence struggling to cope at times with the pace of their play. Bayern just need to try and settle the game down as it is very frantic and there are a lot of loose passes in midfield, handing it straight back to Union.
57' CHANCE! Another good move by the hosts and this time Awoniyi finds Becker in behind the Bayern defence, as the striker gets away from Stanisic and only has Neuer to beat from a tight angle. Becker gets his shot away, aiming for the bottom left corner of the net, but Neuer gets down quickly and pushes it around the post.
55' The game is being played at an excellent pace at the moment, it's end-to-end as Union push players forward on the counter to try and score another.
53' Almost! Becker races down the left wing and just manages to keep the ball in play, before trying to find Awoniyi in the box, but the striker just can't reach it in time and it flies out of play.
51' Decent chance! Becker finds some time and space on the edge of the box after a quick counter and he tries to find the bottom right corner of the net with his strike, but it's too close to Neuer, who makes a comfortable save.
49' Jaeckel is lucky to just get away with a warning there after a poor challenge on Lewandowksi, catching the striker late on the halfway line as the striker raced past him. That perhaps should have been a booking.
48' The hosts will be looking to start the second half how they ended the first period as they had Bayern struggling at the back and almost made it 3-2.
46' The second half is under way!
It looked like the game was over and Bayern would be taking all three points, but the hosts rallied late on and the goal will give them confidence to push on in the second half and level the score. It certainly looks like we could see a few more goals here.
Bayern raced into a 3-0 lead over Union Berlin, thanks to two goals from Lewandowski, the first coming from the penalty spot, before Sane made it three on 35 minutes. However, the hosts have fought back and made it 3-1 just before the break, with Giesselmann firing the ball into the back of the net. It looked like they had made it 3-2 on the stroke of half-time, after Becker raced through and converted, but his strike was ruled out for offside.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: UNION BERLIN 1-3 BAYERN MUNICH
44' GOAL RULED OUT! Union thought they had made it 3-2! Awoniyi slides the ball through to Becker who sneaks in behind Sule and the striker then only had Neuer to beat and he slides it into the back of the net. However, the flag goes up for offside straight away and the goal is ruled out. That was a very close call!
G. Haraguchi
Assist
43' Bayern didn't get close enough to Haraguchi and allowed him to whip a cross into the box for Giesselmann, who finished superbly at the far post.
N. Gießelmann
Goal
43' GOAL! UNION BERLIN PULL ONE BACK! Haraguchi turns quickly and delivers a lovely cross into the box for Giesselmann to get onto the end of at the far post and he volleys a low strike towards goal. Neuer gets a touch on the shot, but he can only turn it onto the post and it then bounces across the line. It’s 3-1!
41' There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, will we see any more goals before the half-time whistle?
39' Bayern have won each of their last three away games in the Bundesliga while scoring at least three goals each time - the last time Bayern had such a long winning streak away from home was at the turn of the years 2019-20 (5 wins with at least three goals scored).
37' Bayern are well and truly cruising here now, surely Union can’t get anything out of this game? It looks like the visitors have bounced back from their disappointing midweek defeat.
L. Sané
Goal
35' GOAL! SANE MAKES IT 3-0! The winger had just missed a great chance a few moments earlier, but made up for it there and sends Bayern further ahead. Stanisic whips a lovely low cross into the box from the right wing and Muller tries to get to it, but he gets the slightest of touches, which sends it straight into the path of Sane and he simply couldn’t miss from just a few yards out!
T. Müller
Assist
35' That's another assist for Muller today, but I'm not sure he knew too much about this one. He tried to get on the end of a cross from Stanisic himself, but doesn't make very good contact and that sends it into the path of Sane.
34' SAVE! Huge chance for Sane to make it 3-0! Lewandowski shows great skill to take the ball down on the edge of the penalty area, before flicking it over the top for Sane to run onto the end of. Sane then sprints into the box and only has Luthe to beat, but the keeper makes himself big and makes a superb stop.
33' We’re past the half an hour mark now and it remains Bayern who lead 2-0, thanks to a brace from Lewandowski, the first coming from the penalty spot.
31' CLOSE! Bayern counter up the pitch quickly after Neuer plays the ball out from the back and Bayern break up the pitch in numbers. It eventually falls to Sane in the box, who goes for goal from a tight angle, but he fires his effort into the side netting! He should have tested Luthe there!
N. Süle
Yellow Card
30' Sule is the first Bayern man to be booked after his high and late challenge on Becker deep down the left wing.
29' Free-kick to Union in a good position down the left wing, close to the penalty area after Sule catches Becker late with a high leg and doesn’t get anywhere near the ball. It looks like the Bayern defender might be booked as well.
27' It’ll be a tough ask for the home side to get back into this game now, as Bayern don’t tend to lose many games in which they have led 2-0 early on.
25' Union Berlin were the only side Bayern failed to beat in last season's Bundesliga (D2). The two goals Bayern scored against the Eisernen in the previous season (1-1 twice) were also the Bavarian side's lowest total against an opponent in 2020-21.
T. Müller
Assist
23' The free-kick was right on the edge of the penalty area, so Muller flicked it to Lewandowski to create a better angle and the striker fired the ball into the top corner.
R. Lewandowski
Goal
23' GOAL! BAYERN DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! Lewandowski has his second of the game and makes it 2-0! Lewandowski won a free-kick right on the edge of the box and Muller played it off to him and the striker powered the ball into the top right corner of the net. Great finish.
22' Free-kick to Bayern in a very good shooting position now after Lewandowski is dragged to the ground right on the edge of the penalty area by Knoche.
21' Sane has been very lively for Bayern so far, cutting in from the left wing and trying to link up with Muller and Lewandowski in the middle. It was his powerful strike that led to the Bayern penalty.
19' It will be interesting to see how the hosts respond to going behind as they now know that they need to kick on and push forward if they are to get an equaliser. They can't just sit back and defend for the rest of the game.
17' Bayern look keen on doubling their lead early on here to give themselves some breathing space and at the moment the hosts are showing no signs of a comeback.
R. Lewandowski
Penalty Goal
15' GOAL! BAYERN TAKE THE LEAD! Lewandowski coolly converts from the penalty spot and makes it 1-0! Bayern were awarded the penalty after Sane's strike from the edge of the box struck the arm of Jaeckel and Lewandowski stepped up to send Luthe the wrong way, firing the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.
P. Jaeckel
Yellow Card
14' Jaeckel is booked for handling the ball in the penalty area and giving away a spot-kick. The Union players appeal the decision, but nothing is changing the referee's mind.
14' BAYERN PENALTY! The visitors have been handed a great chance to take the lead after Jaeckel rushes out and blocks a shot from Sane with his arm. The defender had his arm high across his face and it clearly struck it, forcing the referee no choice but to award a spot-kick.
13' It continues to be Bayern who are dominating the game, but they are struggling to get into the Union penalty area to create an opportunity on goal. Sane's chance has been the best opportunity so far.
11' Union Berlin haven’t won any of their four Bundesliga matches against Bayern (D2 L2) - only against Wolfsburg and Schalke have the Berlin side remained winless in their first four Bundesliga matches.
9' Bayern have got off to a better start today than they did against Borussia Monchengladbach in midweek, as they conceded after two minutes. We haven't seen much action in the final third so far yet though.
7' Decent chance! Sane finds space in behind the Union defence and is picked out by a ball over the top from Muller. Sane then fires a volley towards the bottom right corner of the net, but he drags his effort wide of the post.
5' Almost! Good play by Bayern down the right wing! Stanisic gets forward from right-back and finds Sane in the box, who dribbles past one defender and then tries to get a pass or shot away, but the hosts get men back in the nick of time and clear the danger.
3' Bayern with the early possession here, getting forward in numbers and forcing the Union Berlin players to sit deep and soak up the early pressure.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
