Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this afternoon. Until next time, goodbye.
Southampton are next in action on the road to Leicester next Saturday. Leeds face Chelsea in their next outing at Elland Road on Sunday.
Southampton come from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Leeds United at St Mary's Stadium. Two strikes from Rodrigo early in the second half had put the Whites in control, but the Saints had the spirit to rally. Joe Aribo came off the bench to notch his first goal for the club before Kyle Walker-Peters levelled with a composed finish. Both teams then pushed for the three points, but neither could find a winner as they shared the spoils.

Aaronson whips a corner into the box from the right flank that Struijk rises to attack. His header loops towards the top-left corner as it soars over the hand of Bazunu. Like all good poachers, Rodrigo is there to ensure that it crosses the line with a deft header.

He drives deep into Southampton territory, and even though he loses possession at first to Walker-Peters, he regains the ball and clips a cross to the back post. Salisu is there for the Saints to clear ahead of James, but Leeds are a threat on the break.
53' Adams is fine to continue after receiving treatment.
53' Adams requires treatment after his collision with Djenepo. Marsch will be hopeful to avoid another injury.
52' Djenepo and Adams collide down the left flank, but the Saints play on. The wing-back tries to run at James, but the Welshman holds firm to force the mistake from the Southampton man.
49' Leeds have avoided defeat in their last seven matches when scoring the opening goal in the Premier League dating back to 2nd January 2022 against Burnley.
47' Armstrong looks to respond for the Saints, but he drags his strike from 25 yards harmlessly wide of the left post.

The winger works it back towards the near post where Rodrigo sweeps a left-footed strike past Bazunu.
46' We're back under way at St Mary's Stadium.
Jesse Marsch will be satisifed with Leeds' performance, although the loss of Patrick Bamford to injury and the yellow cards given to Harrison and Kristensen will be a concern. The Whites might just be looking to sit back and play on the counter.
It's goalless at the break between Southampton and Leeds United at St Mary's Stadium. The Whites had the best chances in the first half as Jack Harrison saw his effort saved by Gavin Bazunu, while Rasmus Kristensen failed to beat the Saints keeper with a close-range effort at the back post. Southampton have been too quiet in the first half and need to be more adventurous in the second.

38' Frustration builds for the home fans as the Saints are unable to force their way out of trouble amid pressure from the Whites.
36' KRISTENSEN HAS TO SCORE! The defender misses a sitter at the back post. Aaronson whips a corner into the box on his left foot from the right flank that Llorente glances across the face of goal. 34' SAVE! Harrison surges into the Southampton box down the inside-left channel and fires at goal hard and low. Bazunu has to react and pushes the ball away with a firm hand.
32' The loss of Bamford will be a tough loss for Leeds. It removes their ability to be direct in the final third.

28' Bamford is struggling with an injury for the visitors and will have to be withdrawn. Given his issues last season that is a massive disappointment for Marsch.

1' We're under way at St Mary's Stadium.
Southampton have won four of their last five home league matches against Leeds (L1), with those wins coming across the Premier League, Championship and League One.
Unsurprisingly following their win over Wolves, Leeds are unchanged this afternoon. Marsch opts for the same side that triumphed on the opening day as Bamford leads the line supported by Rodrigo, Harrison and Aaronson. There are attacking options on the bench as James and new signing Sinisterra are available.
Southampton have made four changes to their side from their defeat to Spurs. Valery drops out of the backline and is replaced by debutant Bella-Kotchap. The other changes come in the final third as Adams, Armstrong and Elyounoussi all come into the side in place of Romeu, Aribo and Armstrong, all of whom drop to the bench.

SOUTHAMPTON (3-4-3): Gavin Bazunu; Armel Bella-Kotchap, Jan Bednarek, Mohamed Salisu; Kyle Walker-Peters, James Ward-Prowse, Romeo Lavia, Moussa Djenepo; Stuart Armstrong, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Che Adams.
Leeds battled hard on the opening day of the Premier League campaign to earn a 2-1 win at home against Wolves. The Whites went behind early, but were able to respond through Rodrigo Moreno before an own goal from Rayan Ait Nouri secured the three points. Jesse Marsch's men now have a great opportunity to string back-to-back victories together to capitalise on the Saints' woes.
Southampton began the season with a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Tottenham last week, getting the new campaign off to a poor start. The Saints have won only one of their last 10 Premier League games, and the manner of the defeat to Spurs has cranked up the pressure on Ralph Hasenhuttl. The Austrian needs a response from his team in their first home match of the season to stave off further criticism.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Southampton and Leeds United at St Mary's Stadium.
