Despite playing against a team that have been beset by wage issues; Kuantan FA, Pulau Pinang could only record a goalless draw in their Malaysia Premier League match on Tuesday.
The home team had only two foreigners in their starting line-up, Alexandru Tudose and Andrezinho. Peculiarly, they had only four players on the bench as a number of their players have departed the side after not having their wages paid for three months. Still, they should consider themselves lucky; last Sunday, FAM Cup side Marcerra United, who are under the same management as the Seagulls and are undergoing similar administrative and financial difficulties, could only field eight players in their league match against D’Ar Wanderers
The visitors started with three of their imports; Ken Ilso Larsen, Seungjo Kang and Ugo Ukah with Amirul Asyraf Suhadi as their custodian. Norhafiz Zamani Misbah and Yong Kuong Yong started in defence. Gambian winger Sanna Nyassi was on the bench for the start.
Under the hot sun at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium, both teams struggled to open the scoring and the first half ended goalless.
Panthers head coach Zainal Abidin Hassan brought on Nyassi at the start of the second half, taking the place of Junaidi Shafiai.
At the 65th minute, Seungjo sent his shot over the bar.
Kuantan went down to 10 men when midfielder Fikri Elhan received his second booking for a foul on Nyassi in the 68th minute.
Larsen almost found the back of the net later, but he blazed his shot over the bar under the intense marking of Haziq Puad.
Despite the visitors' pressing towards the end of the match and their one-man advantage, they remained unable to break the deadlock and the match ended 0-0.
