Commentary

That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
This result leaves Burnley just two points above Everton in 18th and level with Leeds, with both sides playing tomorrow. Next up for the Clarets is a trip to Tottenham. Meanwhile Villa move up to 11th and they'll face Liverpool next on Tuesday.
Aston Villa secure all three points at Turf Moor with a 3-1 victory over relegation threatened Burnley. The visitors led 2-0 at the break after goals from Ings and Buendia, despite several good opportunities for Burnley, but Watkins grabbed his side’s third on 52 minutes to clinch the victory. Villa controlled much of the remainder of the game and looked like keeping a clean sheet as well, but a brief lack of concentration at the back in stoppage time allowed Cornet to sneak in and score a consolation goal for the Clarets.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: BURNLEY 1-3 ASTON VILLA
E. Pieters
Assist
90' + 1' Burnley break quickly and Pieters sends the ball through the Villa defence to Cornet, who does the rest with a composed finish.
M. Cornet
Goal
90' + 1' GOOOAAALLL! BURNLEY PULL ONE BACK! Cornet makes it 3-1 in stoppage time! Villa switch off at the back and Burnley capitalise on the counter-attack, with Cornet finding himself through on goal with just Martinez to beat and he rounds the keeper and then fires the ball into the back of the net.
90' There will be a minimum of three minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
89' There's just a minute, plus any time added on left to play, can Burnley nick a late consolation goal?
87' It looks like Watford are set to be relegated today, as they are losing away at Crystal Palace. Therefore, there is only one place left to confirm and it looks like that will be one of Burnley, Leeds or Everton.
85' Decent chance! A deep free-kick is whipped into the box and Weghorst meets it at the far post, but his header flies well wide of the Villa goal.
84' The pace has dropped off now, with Burnley seeing a lot of the ball, but not playing with much intensity as Villa are dropping deep and letting them have it.
82' We're into the final 10 minutes of the game and it remains Villa who lead 3-0 and they look on course to make it back-to-back wins, moving up to 11th in the process.
Philippe Coutinho
E. Buendía
79' Another Villa change now, with Buendia the man coming off and Coutinho is his replacement.
78' It's the away supporters who are making all of the noise inside Turf Moor, they are really enjoying this superb performance from their side today.
76' Burnley are keeping the ball well in middle, but aren't threatening to create anything in the final third and it's all pretty easy for Villa to defend against at the moment.
A. Young
D. Ings
74' Another Villa change coming up, with Ings replaced by Young.
E. Pieters
A. Barnes
72' The home side make their third and final change of the game, with Barnes heading off and on comes Pieters.
71' This is the first time that Burnley and Aston Villa have faced each other in this Premier League campaign. This is the latest into a season two top-flight teams are meeting for their first league game since 1987-88, when Luton and Nottingham Forest met for the first time on 13th May.
J. Brownhill
Yellow Card
69' Brownhill is booked after he catches Buendia late, after the Villa man flicked the ball away from him in the nick of time.
C. Chukwuemeka
C. Chambers
68' Villa make their first change now, with Chambers the man coming off and he has been replaced by Chukwuemeka.
67' Watkins with another free header in the box, this time he powers it down into the ground, which takes a lot of the pace out of it and Pope makes a comfortable save.
M. Cornet
A. Lennon
66' Here comes the substitution, with Lennon making his way off the pitch and on comes Cornet.
64' It looks like Cornet is set to come on for Burnley, he is getting stripped on the sidelines in preparation. The winger is his sides top goalscorer this season, with seven goals.
62' Stoppage in play here as Mings is down with a head injury in his own penalty area after a clash of heads between himself and Weghorst. However, it looks like the Villa skipper should be fine to continue.
60' Surely Burnley need to think about making a few more changes to try and change things here as Villa look very comfortable and the hosts look short of ideas.
58' The eight Premier League meetings between Burnley and Aston Villa have alternated between a draw (4) and a victory for either side (2 each), with Burnley winning the last match 3-2 in January 2021.
56' It's going to be very difficult for Burnley to get anything out of this one now, as Villa have a strong lead and look really dangerous every time they get into the final third.
54' SAVE! Villa almost have a fourth! Cash beats Taylor and finds space in the box, before firing an effort towards the near post. However, Pope stands firm and makes a strong stop to deny him.
J. McGinn
Assist
52' The cross to Watkins from McGinn is absolutely perfect, the striker was unmarked in the box and he just had to make contact with it to beat Pope.
O. Watkins
Goal
52' GOOOAAALLL! VILLA HAVE A THIRD! Villa counter quickly and open Burnley up at the back, with McGinn finding space down the left wing, before whipping a superb cross into the box for Watkins, who powers a header into the back of the net. They lead 3-0!
50' The crowd are getting behind Burnley here, urging them forward, but they haven't been able to create anything of note so far in the second period.
48' Not too far away! Watkins tries to curl the ball into the top right corner of the net from the edge of the box, but it takes a slight deflection and flies narrowly wide.
K. Long
J. Tarkowski
47' Here is the enforced Burnley change, with Tarkowski replaced by Long.
47' Huge blow for Burnley at the start of the second half as Tarkowski is down with an injury and it doesn't look like the centre-back is going to be able to continue.
46' The second half is under way!
Supporters of Leeds and Everton will be very happy with the scoreline at the moment, they'll be hoping Villa can see this game out to hand them an advantage in the relegation battle. Burnley need to take a few of their chances in the second half to try and turn this one around.
Burnley will have to come from behind if they are to get anything from this game as they trail 2-0 at half-time to Aston Villa, after goals from Ings and Buendia. Villa have been ruthless in front of goal, scoring from their two opportunities, meanwhile Burnley have had a few chances, but haven't been able to find a way through. McNeil should have done better when he only had Martinez to beat, but he fired his effort straight at the keeper.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: BURNLEY 0-2 ASTON VILLA
O. Watkins
Yellow Card
45' + 1' Watkins is booked after he leads with his arm as he wins a header against Collins.
44' Roberts picks up a loose ball on the edge of the box and fires an effort towards goal, but it's too close to Martinez, who makes the stop.
42' CHANCE! Huge opportunity for McNeil! The winger capitalises on a mistake by Konsa deep down the right wing and McNeil races into the box and only has Martinez to beat. However, he fires his effort straight at the keeper, who makes a good save.
41' Villa look fairly comfortable at the moment and they look dangerous in attack whenever they go forward, with Buendia very lively in midfield for the visitors.
39' There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, can Burnley pull one back before the half-time whistle?
37' McNeil cuts in from the right wing and fires a good effort towards goal, which takes a deflection off a Villa defender, but Martinez comfortably gathers.
36' Each of Villa’s last six Premier League wins have seen them keep a clean sheet, with the Villans winless in 11 games when conceding at least once (D2 L9).
34' Decent chance! Barnes manages to get a shot away from the edge of the box, but Martinez gets down quickly and makes a good save to his left.
33' Burnley have it all to do now if they are to get anything out of this game. There is certainly plenty of time left on the clock for the home side.
L. Digne
Assist
31' Digne had a few team-mates to aim for, but Buendia was allowed far too much time and space in the box and easily got on the end of the cross and fired it into the back of the net.
E. Buendía
Goal
31' GOOOAAALLL! VILLA DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! Buendia makes it 2-0 just after the half an hour mark, to finish a lovely move by the visitors. Watkins picks up the ball inside the box down the left, he plays a one-two with Ings, before Watkins feeds Digne on the overlap and the left-back then picks out Buendia, who slides it into the back of the net. It takes a slight deflection off Tarkowski in the process.
29' CLOSE! McNeil whips a fantastic cross into the box from the right wing, straight onto the head of Weghorst, who fires a header towards the top right corner of the net. However, it flies just inches wide! Martinez looked beaten.
28' Martinez is certainly taking his time with the ball when it's in his possession, the referee is already pointing to his watch as a warning. Bit early for timewasting!
26' CHANCE! McNeil once again looking dangerous down the right wing and fires a low ball goes into the box, which Weghorst picks up and he powers an effort towards goal, but it flies narrowly wide of the post.
24' ALMOST! Collins plays a poor header back to Pope and it forces the keeper to sprint to the edge of the box and he produces a weak clearance. This falls straight to Buendia, who has an open goal to aim at, but luckily for Burnley, the shot lacks pace and Pope easily gathers.
L. Digne
Yellow Card
21' The first yellow card of the game is shown to Digne after he dives into a tackle with McNeil and catches him quite high with the follow through.
20' McNeil has looked dangerous for the hosts so far, he has been Burnley's biggest threat down the right wing, but just hasn't been able to pick out Barnes or Weghorst yet in the box.
18' Burnley try and catch Villa out on the counter-attack, but they don't move the ball quickly enough and Digne wins it back, before coolly playing it back to Martinez, who clears the danger.
16' Decent opportunity! Luiz steps up to take a free-kick around 25 yards out, but he doesn't get enough height on it and it strikes the Burnley wall.
15' If Burnley could get something out of today's game, it would really put the pressure on Leeds and Everton who don't play until tomorrow.
13' Burnley have responded well to going a goal down, they are keeping the well in midfield and are making Villa do all of the chasing. However, they are yet to create a goalscoring opportunity.
11' Danny Ings has now scored in his last four Premier League appearances against the Clarets. The only other player to score in four consecutive Premier League appearances against a team they’ve previously played for in the competition was Craig Bellamy vs Newcastle United (2007 – 2011).
9' Decent chance! McNeil finds Weghorst in the Villa final third, who flicks the ball to Barnes on the edge of the box and the striker fires a shot towards goal. However, it flies well wide.
E. Buendía
Assist
7' Buendia received the ball on the half turn and instantly spotted the run of Ings, perfectly firing the pass into his team-mates path, who coolly finished.
D. Ings
Goal
7' GOOOAAALLL! VILLA TAKE THE LEAD! Ings scores against his former club to make it 1-0! The striker once again sneaks in behind the Burnley defence as Buendia slides a lovely ball through to him and Ings races onto it and then fires it past Pope and into the back of the net.
5' Burnley go on the attack now and Weghorst wins a corner, which McNeil whips in from the right. However, nothing comes of it as Martinez goes down while trying to gather in the air.
3' Good move! Buendia flicks a long ball from Mings over the top and Ings sprints onto the end of it. He gets into the box and tries to find Watkins, but his strike partner doesn't read it and the cross flies out of play at the far post.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
