Thank you for joining our coverage, we hope you enjoyed the game. Until next time, goodbye.
Villa travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea next, while Brentford host Brighton and Hove Albion.
There goes the full-time whistle! Toney opened the scoring for Brentford after just seven minutes with a close-range strike, but Buendia equalised for Villa six minutes later with a stunning effort from the edge of the box. Both sides had chances in an evenly matched game, but neither could find a winning goal. It finishes 1-1 at Villa Park.
90' + 8' SAVE! Villa break from a corner and Watkins works half a yard on the left, but his low, driven shot is held well by Raya. That is surely the last chance of the contest.
90' + 7' NO PENALTY! Wissa anticipates contact from Hause as the Villa defender tries to get the ball clear and goes down just inside the box, but the contact was minimal and the referee waves the Brentford forward's appeals away.
90' + 6' SAVE! El Ghazi beats Canos comprehensively with a neat stepover and lofts a cross to the back post where Watkins arrives to head at goal, but Raya is there to make the save at the near post!
90' + 3' Hause is put under pressure as he looks to play the ball back to Martinez. There is a collective intake of breath from the home fans as the substitute dwells in possession, but he eventually plays the pass back to his goalkeeper.
90' + 1' There will be EIGHT minutes of added time at Villa Park. Plenty of time for either side to find a winner.
S. Baptiste
V. Janelt
89' Frank makes his final change, bringing Janelt off for Baptiste as the game draws to a close.
K. Hause
E. Konsa
89' Konsa is down on the turf again and it is clear that he cannot continue. His injury forces him off and Smith calls on Hause, who slots in alongside Tuanzebe at centre-half.
86' Konsa is attempting to soldier on and is back on the pitch following several minutes of treatment on his knee. He is not moving freely, however.
84' Konsa has stayed down following that chance for Pinnock and there appears to be a problem with his knee. The Villa defender looks as though he may have to be replaced.
82' CHANCE! Tuanzebe is livid at not being awarded a free-kick as Wissa stands on the back of his foot, causing the Villa defender to lose his boot. A corner is awarded, however, and it finds Pinnock at the far post, but the defender cannot connect properly with the header and it is an easy take for Martinez in the end.
M. Jensen
B. Mbeumo
80' Meanwhile, Mbeumo goes off for Brentford, with Frank bringing an extra central midfielder in Jensen on for the closing stages of the contest.
O. Watkins
A. Young
79' Smith introduces Watkins to warm applause from the home supporters. The striker replaces Young as Smith makes a positive change in search of a winner.
77' El Ghazi shows great desire to sprint back and make an important tackle on Canos, who was surging into space. The challenge is fair, but Canos has stayed down with what appears to be a calf injury.
V. Janelt
Yellow Card
75' The bookings continue to rack up as Janelt now slides in very late on Young. It is a poor challenge and deserving of a yellow card.
D. Ings
Yellow Card
72' Ings' frustration boils over as he is shown a yellow card for clipping the heels of Ajer as the pair raced into the Brentford box to meet the ball. The referee's mind is made up, however.
70' Ings is furious at not being awarded a free-kick after being wrestled to the ground as he approached the edge of the box with intent. It certainly looked a foul and the striker is bewildered by the referee's decision.
68' WIDE! El Ghazi darts infield from the left and unleashes a fierce effort towards the top-right corner, but he cuts across it a little too much and it swerves the wrong side of the post.
Y. Wissa
S. Ghoddos
66' Frank responds with a substitution of his own. Ghoddos is the man to be replaced, with new signing Wissa coming off the bench.
M. Nakamba
Carney Chukwuemeka
63' Smith blinks first and makes a change. Teenager Chukwuemeka comes off after his first Premier League start and is replaced in midfield by Nakamba.
M. Cash
Yellow Card
61' Cash is the latest recipient of the yellow card following a late sliding challenge on Mbeumo. Cash was always on the wrong side of the ball there.
C. Nørgaard
Yellow Card
60' This game has developed a bit of an edge as Norgaard now goes into the book for a rash sliding tackle on El Ghazi.
57' Canos is blocked off by El Ghazi and the travelling supporters bellow for a second yellow card, but the referee gives it some consideration and decides against it.
55' Villa build dangerously down the left and look to pile the pressure on, but El Ghazi strays offside and gets caught as Targett's pass comes to him.
I. Toney
Yellow Card
52' Toney swiftly joins El Ghazi in the book for a clumsy challenge on Chukwuemeka in almost exactly the same part of the pitch.
51' WIDE! Mbeumo charges Cash down and wrests the ball from him just inside the Villa box, but he snatches at his shot and drags it wide of the far corner.
A. El Ghazi
Yellow Card
50' El Ghazi makes no attempt to play the ball and trips Ajer from behind, earning him the first yellow card of the contest.
48' Villa have started the half with intent and are using direct, vertical passes to stretch the Brentford defence.
46' The referee gets us back under way for the second half.
Both sides performed admirably in the first half and the match is delicately poised at half-time. The two managers will perhaps seek a little more control from their teams after the break as they go in search of a winning goal.
There goes the half-time whistle! Brentford came out of the blocks flying and opened the scoring after just seven minutes through Toney, who received a clever flick from Jansson in the box and smashed past Martinez. However, Villa got back on level terms just six minutes later as Buendia picked out the top-right corner from the edge of the box with a stunning effort. It's 1-1 at the break.
44' Cash sends it long for Buendia and there's a mad scramble on the edge of the box as Villa try to force it into space, but it breaks kindly for Brentford and Raya can gather.
42' Henry pops the ball through the legs of Cash, who subsequently clatters into him. The Brentford defender isn't pleased about the lack of a booking for the offender.
40' The pace of the game has become a little more methodical as both sides probe a little more cautiously than they did in the opening exchanges. A few fouls have crept into proceedings, disrupting the flow of the match.
38' Brentford have been growing back into the game after dealing with a spell of pressure from Villa and have broken out of their own third.
36' SAVE! Buendia swings the free-kick into the centre and Tuanzebe meets it in the box, but he can't generate the power he wants on it and his effort towards the far corner is held well by Raya.
35' El Ghazi shows clever, quick feet to move the ball away from Canos and draw a foul, winning a free-kick in a dangerous area out wide.
33' CLOSE! Janelt skips into space on the edge of the box and slips it in to Henry on the left, but the full-back's low effort towards the bottom-right corner rolls just wide of the upright. That was agonisingly close!
31' SAVE! Ghoddos sends Mbeumo in behind with a terrific ball from deep and he races into the box, but Martinez is out to smother the resulting shot. The offside flag then goes up against the Brentford forward.
28' Both sides are looking to get runners in behind when they can. Chukwuemeka hits the byline on the left, but the ball is ushered out of play by Jansson.
26' The game has settled down now and Villa have emerged in control of proceedings. They are seeing the majority of the ball at present and keeping Brentford pinned back.
24' After a frenetic spell, the pace of the game slows down after a couple of fouls disrupt the flow. Both sides might take this chance to have a breather before resuming their high-tempo contest.
22' It's end-to-end stuff at the moment, both sides are showing a great deal of positivity and are getting men forward in search of the next goal.
20' SAVE! El Ghazi twists and turns on the left before sending a cross into the box. Konsa meets it in the middle and his header drops to Ings, who sends a snap-shot towards the bottom-left corner, but Raya gets down to make a terrific save.
18' Villa have gained a great deal of confidence since equalising and are pushing for a second, with Brentford now forced to sit deeper and defend their penalty area.
16' Brentford have just conceded their first goal in the Premier League this season, failing to join the only two newly promoted sides to keep clean sheets in their first three games of a season: Charlton Athletic in 1998-99 and Huddersfield Town in 2017-18.
D. Ings
13' Ings found a pocket of space on the left and worked the ball neatly into the feet of Buendia, but the goalscorer still had to come up with a sensational finish from 18 yards out.
E. Buendía
13' GOAL!!! BUENDIA FIRES VILLA LEVEL!!! Ings cuts in from the left and slides the ball into the feet of Buendia on the edge of the box. The Argentine controls the ball and opens himself up before lashing a ferocious strike into the top-right corner past Raya, who had no chance! It's 1-1 now!
11' Villa seem to have come to life at last. After a strong opening 10 minutes from Brentford, the hosts are starting to impose themselves on the game and are getting men forward now.
9' Prior to this game, only Ederson (20) and Edouard Mendy (18) had kept more Premier League clean sheets among goalkeepers than Martinez (16) since the start of last season. That strike from Toney means the Argentine won't be able to add to his tally today, however.
P. Jansson
7' Jansson, with his back to Toney and under pressure, produced a clever flick to turn the ball neatly into the striker's path.
I. Toney
7' GOAL!!! BRENTFORD TAKE THE LEAD!!! A corner from the left is headed away but Brentford keep it alive through Canos, who drives down the right and puts in a low cross that Jansson flicks on to Toney. The striker finds himself unmarked in the centre of the box and fires an unstoppable effort into the top-right corner! It's 1-0 to Brentford!
5' Ghoddos cuts inside from the left and takes a shot, but it's blocked away. The visitors have started brightly and Villa are being forced to soak up a lot of pressure.
3' Young is on the deck in the Villa box after a tussle with Jansson, but the referee sees nothing untoward and gives the pair a talking-to before allowing Brentford to take their throw-in.
1' We're under way at Villa Park!
Brentford are unbeaten in their last six league meetings with Villa. However, all three games at Villa Park in that run finished level, with the Bees never winning away against the Villans in all competitions.
Villa have never lost a top-flight match against Brentford (W5 D1), with this the first such meeting between the sides since February 1947.
Meanwhile, Brentford boss Thomas Frank keeps just three of the starting 11 that beat Forest Green 3-1 in midweek. Pinnock, Janelt and Ghoddos stay in the side as Frank makes eight changes. Mads Bech Sorensen, Frank Onyeka and Josh Dasilva are ruled out through injury.
Villa head coach Dean Smith retains just four of the players that started in the heavily rotated side that featured against Barrow in the League Cup last time out. Tuanzebe, Targett, Chukwuemeka and El Ghazi are the quartet that keep their places from the 6-0 win. Bertrand Traore, Leon Bailey, Morgan Sanson, Trezeguet, Keinan Davis, John McGinn, Jacob Ramsey and Tyrone Mings make up a hefty injury list.
Brentford substitutes: Mathias Jensen, Dominic Thompson, Shandon Baptiste, Halil Dervisoglu, Yoane Wissa, Finley Stevens, Mads Bidstrup, Marcus Forss, Alvaro Fernandez.
Brentford (3-4-1-2): David Raya; Kristoffer Ajer, Pontus Jansson, Ethan Pinnock; Sergi Canos, Christian Norgaard, Vitaly Janelt, Rico Henry; Saman Ghoddos; Bryan Mbeumo, Ivan Toney.
Aston Villa substitutes: Frederic Guilbert, Jed Steer, Conor Hourihane, Aaron Ramsey, Cameron Archer, Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Ollie Watkins, Marvelous Nakamba, Kortney Hause.
Aston Villa (4-2-3-1): Emiliano Martinez; Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Axel Tuanzebe, Matt Targett; Douglas Luiz, Carney Chukwuemeka; Anwar El Ghazi, Emiliano Buendia, Ashley Young; Danny Ings.
Both Aston Villa and Brentford enjoyed success in the League Cup last time out and return to Premier League action hoping to bring some positive momentum with them.
