Commentary

Arsenal finally get their league campaign up and running then after weeks of handwringing. Crisis? What crisis? That's all for now. Goodbye!
Arsenal rise to 16th in the Premier League table having picked up a vital three points. Suddenly the outlook is far more rosy for Arteta and his team, even if this was a somewhat fortuitous victory over inferior opponents. Norwich take Arsenal's place rock-bottom of the table. They're still pointless after four games played but they have easier games coming up now.
Arsenal get their first win of the season to rise up the Premier League table and ease the pressure on Arteta! It's an important victory for the Gunners who had to try for some time to break a stubborn Norwich side down. In the end Aubameyang was in the right place to score as the game approached its final quarter and Norwich had no answer after that.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: ARSENAL 1-0 NORWICH CITY
90' + 3' "One-nil to the Arsenal!" the home fans crow as Saka has one more effort blocked and Arsenal win a throw-in down their right in Norwich's half. There's no time for Norwich to mount one last attack now. That's it!
90' + 3' Pukki inspires another decent block from Arsenal's defenders. It's last-chance time for Norwich. Aarons dances through a few defenders to burst into the box and reach the byline but can't stop his cross from rolling out of play.
90' + 1' Norwich get caught upfield from their corner and Pepe drifts towards goal but can't keep his shot down. Arsenal are almost there.
90' Pukki gets the time and space to shoot near the six-yard box, forcing a corner. There'll be four more minutes added onto the end of this game.
89' Cedric finds Saka with a low cross in the box. Saka looks to turn and shoot but can't get a clean crack at goal.
B. White
Yellow Card
88' Partey picks up a yellow card for bringing down McLean. Arsenal have had it relatively easy since taking the lead but they can't afford to switch off now.
87' Chance for Arsenal! Krul is in the right place again to stop Smith Rowe's shot. Saka gets on the end of the rebound and fires across goal, watching his effort bounce wide of the left-hand post.
85' Cedric blazes off-target as he arrives first to Arsenal's latest corner. Arsenal are close to getting a second goal and settling this game.
83' Aubameyang forces a decent save from Krul, making the Dutchman drop low to prevent him from finding the bottom left corner. Norwich haven't really shown any signs of threatening to score an equaliser since going behind.
83' Smith Rowe strays offside as Arsenal put together another promising attack down their right. The hosts have undoubtedly improved since half-time.
Cédric Soares
A. Maitland-Niles
82' Arsenal substitution. Cedric replaces Maitland-Niles at right-back now Arsenal have the lead.
81' Norwich's corner doesn't lead to much. Arsenal go upfield and Pepe cuts inside on his left foot to fire over from outside the box.
A. Idah
L. Rupp
80' Norwich make an attacking change before the corner. Idah, a striker, is on for their defensive midfielder Rupp.
78' Quickly before the corner is taken, Aubameyang has scored five goals in his three Premier League games against Norwich now. He scored twice in both of his meetings against Norwich in 2019/20. The Gabonese striker loves scoring against the Canaries.
77' Arsenal toy with Norwich on the edge of Norwich's box but the visitors eventually scramble the ball clear. Rashica earns Norwich a corner up the other end.
75' Pukki's pulled down from behind by Gabriel as the pair go for a bouncing ball. Pukki receives some minor treatment to his head after Gabriel's arm catches his face. Norwich want more than just a free-kick but the referee is lenient with Gabriel.
73' Norwich win a corner now off Odegaard. Arsenal aren't worried too much by it though.
71' Saka shoots from the byline and forces Hanley to block, winning Arsenal a corner. Pepe goes for goal from a similar position seconds later and this time Krul is there to stop it at his near post.
70' Going behind has given Norwich added urgency. Aarons fires over on the volley from the centre of the box.
M. Rashica
C. Tzolis
68' Norwich react to the goal by sending on Rashica for Tzolis.
68' There's a long VAR check as Norwich are adamant that Aubameyang was offside. Admittedly it's more in hope than expectation that the goal will be overturned. In the end the officials go with their initial decision and award the goal.
N. Pépé
Assist
66' It was a very messy goal for Norwich to concede and there's no way Pepe meant to assist Aubameyang but Arsenal won't care. They've finally got themselves a vital lead in this tight game.
P. Aubameyang
Goal
66' GOAL! ARSENAL 1-0 NORWICH CITY! Arsenal finally get their first league goal of the season! Aubameyang bundles the ball over the line after Pepe's initial effort hits the post and rebounds out. Pepe tries to follow it up and hits the post again before Arsenal's captain finally taps it in!
65' Arsenal go up the other end and win a corner. Krul grabs the second ball.
63' Cantwell, who's slotted in on Norwich's left, gets in on the action quickly by firing at goal from a tight angle from the byline. Ramsdale catches it easily.
T. Partey
A. Lokonga
62' Lokonga also heads off. Partey is his replacement in central midfield.
E. Smith Rowe
T. Tomiyasu
62' Arsenal make a raft of changes. Smith Rowe comes on for Tomiyasu after a decent Arsenal debut.
T. Cantwell
K. Dowell
62' Here's that first Norwich substitution. Cantwell replaces Dowell on the wing.
60' Both Arsenal and Norwich are preparing to bring players on. It looks like it might take a moment of magic to break the deadlock here.
58' Lokonga's speculative effort from outside the box is no threat to Norwich's goal. Neither is McLean's blocked shot from a little closer to the penalty area.
56' Maitland-Niles slips a clever pass through to Saka in the box when he looks more likely to shoot. Norwich manage to survive the chance, blocking Saka's shot. Williams also makes a sliding block to stop Pepe's follow-up.
54' Aubameyang darts down the right-hand channel and beats Hanley to cross but Arsenal can't make the most of it.
52' Norwich see out that little spell of Arsenal pressure. Williams fires in a cross that's blocked by Tomiyasu.
50' Aubameyang beats Hanley for pace to the left of the box and centres the ball. Maitland-Niles' shot from distance hits a defender. Norwich hold firm for now but Arsenal are getting closer to opening the scoring.
49' Pepe's free-kick finds the head of Gabriel. Gabriel's header loops over the crossbar.
G. Hanley
Yellow Card
48' Tierney's low cross is cleared by Rupp. Hanley is booked for tugging on Aubameyang's shirt as the Arsenal captain tries to dart in behind again.
46' Krul sweeps up an Arsenal throughball with Aubameyang again looking to latch onto it. Arsenal could end up taking advantage of Norwich's relatively high line.
45' Norwich get things going again. No changes at half-time.
Arsenal had 10 shots to Norwich's four in the opening 45 minutes. However, both teams only had one shot on target and had roughly equal amounts of possession. Arsenal need to give Krul more to do in the second half. If they don't, Norwich will only grow bolder.
It's all square at the break between the Premier League's current bottom two sides. Arsenal have edged the game overall so far although they haven't given Krul much to do in Norwich's goal. Norwich got better as the half went on and will rightly believe they can come away with something from the second half.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: ARSENAL 0-0 NORWICH CITY
45' There'll be just one minute added onto the end of this half. Tzolis finds Pukki in the centre of the box and the Finn has a shot blocked. Both sides will be satisfied with how they've started the game.
44' Saka's stopped unfairly by Lees-Melou. Arsenal are improving just before half-time. Tierney hangs up a cross towards the far post. Williams' defensive header makes it as far out as Tomiyasu who spanks a first-time shot just over the crossbar. That would have been a great goal had it gone in.
43' Pepe's free-kick isn't the best. The Frenchman's effort bounces wide of the right-hand post.
M. Aarons
Yellow Card
42' Aarons picks up the game's first yellow card for impeding Aubameyang's run in behind. Arsenal have a free-kick just outside the box, to the left of goal.
40' This is a decent spell by Norwich who have edged things for the last 15 minutes or so. They haven't hugely threatened Arsenal yet though.
39' Norwich's latest attack breaks down but Pepe's poor touch prevents him from capitalising on it. Williams is on hand to mop up.
37' Arsenal's wall does its job by blocking Dowell's free-kick and Norwich get a corner down their left. The hosts can't totally clear it though. Norwich are in the ascendancy.
35' Arsenal give away the ball to McLean and Norwich go on the attack. Pukki wins his team a free-kick just outside the D as White catches the striker's foot.
33' Lees-Melou manages to find the time to thread a pass through to Pukki in the penalty area. There's brief panic in Arsenal's defence for a second before they are able to hook the ball away from the Finn.
31' Lokonga floats a pass over the top for Aubameyang to chase. Aubameyang slips under pressure from Hanley. The home fans halfheartedly cry for a penalty, knowing they're unlikely to get one. They don't.
29' Krul's shoddy pass out from the back hands Arsenal a free throw-in. Arsenal have predictably had the lion's share of possession so far.
27' Norwich are growing into the game after withstanding that early pressure from Arsenal. Maitland-Niles looks to send Saka through on goal but Omobamidele anticipates the danger and cuts the pass out.
25' Aarons has space in front of him and checks onto his left foot to go for goal from outside the box. It's a decent effort that doesn't have enough curl to beat Ramsdale.
24' Omobamidele sends the free-kick forward and Ramsdale shepherds it out for a goal-kick. The home crowd are unahppy as Aubameyang nudges over Omobamidele and gives away a foul.
23' Krul claims Maitland-Niles' hopeful hump into the box. Norwich keep the ball in their own half for a while and Tzolis wins his side a free-kick.
21' Dowell shows some silky skills on the edge of Arsenal's box before promptly giving away possession. Norwich have shown flashes of their ability without creating too much yet.
19' Rupp is penalised for bringing down Saka near the centre circle. Arsenal take the free-kick quickly and Aubameyang latches onto Odegaard's pass over the top to fire straight at Krul. Krul takes the sting out of the shot and Williams clears. Norwich counter unsuccessfully. Aubameyang is offside anyway.
17' Pepe cuts onto his favoured left foot and swings in a cross from deep. Omobamidele heads it out for an Arsenal corner. It lands to Tierney who strikes from way out into a crowd of Norwich defenders.
15' Dowell steals the ball from Saka and passes back to Aarons. Aarons crosses in from deep and McLean nods over from the edge of the six-yard box.
14' Arsenal probe for a while before Lokonga goes for goal from distance. It's a comfortable save for Krul as the shot is straight at the Norwich goalkeeper.
13' Krul punches away Pepe's corner but Arsenal come straight back. Maitland-Niles beats Rupp to reach the byline but can't keep the ball in play.
12' Arsenal pass through the midfield and find Pepe who bamboozles Williams to the right of Norwich's box. Williams recovers well enough to give away the corner.
10' Norwich escape the press and Tzolis carries the ball down the left for the visitors. The Greek plays a one-two with Dowell and fizzes a low cross across the face of goal. There's no one in yellow there to meet it though and Arsenal break. Aubameyang shoots early and fires just wide of the left-hand post.
9' Norwich enjoy their first real foray into Arsenal's half. Arsenal press well though and force the visitors to pass all the way back to Krul.
7' White sends a ball down the line for Tomiyasu to chase.  Arsenal are playing a 4-2-3-1 with Tomiyasu at right-back. The Japanese full-back fires in the cross but Norwich clear and try to counter. Dowell can't release Pukki though.
6' Norwich have barely been able to get out of their defensive third yet. This could be a long game for the visitors with Arsenal in this kind of mood.
4' Tomiyasu slams a shot against a Norwich defender from outside the box. Arsenal's new signing then runs straight at Tzolis down the right. Tzolis hands Arsenal a throw-in.
3' Pepe takes on two Norwich players and tempts WIlliams into conceding another corner. Arsenal have started well. The corner comes in and Gabriel can't control his header at the far post. Norwich get the goal-kick.
2' Norwich see the corner away without too much difficulty. Arsenal look to have started this game with burning purpose, given their humiliating start to the season.
1' Arsenal go on the attack right away as Tierney flings in a cross from the left. Norwich promptly clear it away. Pepe takes on Williams down the opposite flank and Williams slides in to concede the first corner of the game.
1' The players take the knee and Arsenal get this game underway!
The two teams are out on the pitch at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal are wearing their traditional red and white home colours. Norwich will play in their distinctive yellow shirts and green shorts.
Norwich are timely opponents for Arsenal. Since winning 4-2 at Highbury in their first-ever Premier League match in 1992, Norwich are winless in eight away league games against the Gunners, conceding 24 goals in that run. Arsenal haven't lost against the Canaries since a 1-0 defeat at Carrow Road in October 2012. A win here would be a big confidence boost for Arteta and his team.
There are seven changes to Arsenal from their last game, a 5-0 thumping away to Manchester City. Aubameyang deputises as captain with Granit Xhaka suspended, while Tomiyasu makes his debut for the club. Norwich make four changes from their 2-1 home defeat to Leicester City. Omobamidele, Rupp, Dowell and Tzolis come in.

Luckily, Arsenal's opponents here are Norwich who sit just above them in the relegation zone. Daniel Farke's Canaries too have yet to pick up a point in the league this season, although they have had tricky opening fixtures. After recruiting heavily during the transfer window, Norwich will be hopeful this could be the game where they end their 13-game losing streak in the Premier League.
Arsenal aren't used to finding themselves bottom of the Premier League table. This is only the Gunners' second-ever game when starting the day in this position. The only previous such game was their second-ever game in the competition, way back in August 1992. Mikel Arteta's side urgently need a win or else it won't just be Arteta's job that comes into question.
