Socceroos player ratings v Lebanon: New boys impress as striker search continues

A number of players stepped up on their first starts for the green and gold

Martin Boyle bagged two goals and an assist on his first start for the Socceroos as they pulled past Lebanon 3-0.

Fellow new boys Awer Mabil and Rhyan Grant also impressed, while a number of regulars stumbled somewhat.

Check out Goal's ratings for every Australian player below.

  1. Mat Ryan

    Rating: 6/10

A quiet and short night at the office for Ryan, who was withdrawn at half-time.

  2. Rhyan Grant

    Rating: 7/10

Solid on debut. Made a number of dangerous runs forward and did what he had to in defence.

  3. Milos Degenek

    Rating: 8/10

Showed he's capable of filling the void of Mark Milligan one day with a stellar showing. Faultless at the back and created the Socceroos second with a powerful header that crashed against the crossbar.

  4. Trent Sainsbury

    Rating: 6/10

Another shaky performance from the defender. A few poor challenges and looked a touch off the pace. A lack of club game time doing him no favours.

  5. Aziz Behich

    Rating: 7/10

Though he's not getting much minutes at PSV either, the left-back looked sharp against Lebanon. Put a number of good crosses into the box and was rarely caught out of position.

  6. Jackson Irvine

    Rating: 5/10

A laboured but lacklustre performance from the holding midfielder. Put a number of passes wide and generally struggled to link up with his teammates.

  7. Getty Images

    Aaron Mooy

    Rating: 6/10

Playing higher up the pitch, Mooy wasn't at his best as he tried desperately to break down Lebanon's defence. Not as sharp as usual with his passing or free-kicks.

  8. Mustafa Amini

    Rating: 6/10

A mixed performance from Amini, who looked determined to make an impact in his first start. Made a number of interceptions, but was guilty of a few fouls and poor passes.

  9. Martin Boyle

    Rating: 10/10

Could do no wrong in his first Socceroos start. Bagged a fortunate double before laying on a brilliant assist. Fast, sharp and reads the game well. An invaluable addition for the green and gold.

  10. Awer Mabil

    Rating: 7/10

A positive and energetic first start for the young winger. Confident on the ball and was never afraid to ask questions of Lebanon's defence. Will only get better with each Socceroos appearance.

  11. Tomi Juric

    Rating: 5/10

Given the nod ahead of Jamie Maclaren, but didn't make the most of his chance. A heavy touch robbing him of his best chance.

  12. Substitutes

    Danny Vukovic: 7/10

Put under a bit more pressure than Ryan, but read the game well and cleared any danger with confidence.

    Mathew Leckie: 7/10

Scored moments after coming on with an instinctive first-time effort. Easily one of the Socceroos best these days.

    Andrew Nabbout: 7/10

Lively in his short cameo, forcing a fine save and hitting the post in injury-time.

    James Jeggo: N/A

    Matthew Jurman: N/A

    Tim Cahill: N/A
