Mashemeji Derby: The key players for AFC Leopards against Gor Mahia

14:23 GMT+3 24/08/2018
AFC Leopards Marvin Nabwire v Nakumatt.
Saturday's derby will be the 84th league meeting between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia. Ingwe have won 27 times while K'Ogalo have 25 wins

AFC Leopards will miss seven key players for the derby, that is almost 70% of the first eleven.

Apart from the 'long term' absentees, Marvin Omondi and Jaffari Owiti, the suspension of Ezekiel Odera, who has accumulated five yellow cards and a red card, means Ingwe will be lighter in attack.

Others players, who will miss the derby include Robinson Kamura, Salim 'Shittu' Abdallah, Dennis Sikhayi and Moses Mburu.

Goal now parades some of the players who will be required to step up for Ingwe against K'Ogalo.

  • Ezekiel Owade of AFC Leopards.

    #1 Ezekiel Owade

The goalkeeper has performed better for the twelve-time league champions. But he conceded two in the first leg against Gor Mahia; the custodian has no other way but to come up with ways to ensure he makes vital saves to deny the league's top scorers. Owade has to keep his defenders on toes.

  • Gor Mahia striker Meddie Kagere v Duncan Otieno of AFC Leopards.

    #2 Duncan Otieno

The utility skipper is at it again! He has to marshal the defense following the absence of the entire Ingwe back four. So far he has been doing okay, but the test will be on Saturday. The only thing he should try and do is to stop Gor Mahia attackers from getting the passes from the midfield.

  • Innocent Wafula of Gor Mahia v Whyvonne Isuza of AFC Leopards.

    #3 Whyvonne Isuza

The little magician is back after sitting out two matches owing to the ban he was serving after accumulating five yellow cards and a red card. He will be relied on in creating chances, and ensuring the midfield is not overrun. Was on target against the same opponent in first leg's 2-1 defeat.

  • Alex Orotomal Michael Kibwage and Ezekiel Odera of AFC Leopards.

    #4 Alex Orotomal

With Marvin Omondi, Jaffari Owiti and Ezekiel Odera out, the lanky Nigerian striker is expected to be given a start. Scored a vital goal after coming in as a substitute against Thika United last weekend, but he should know that this is Gor Mahia. His experience will be vital for the Rodolfo Zapata led side.

  • John Waw of Sony Sugar v Brian Marita of AFC Leopards.

    #5 Brian Marita

Marita was a thorn against Thika United and was rewarded with an assist last weekend. Well, his pace and trickery will be much needed against the defending champions. There are no two ways about this, the talented Marita has to deliver if Ingwe are to revenge on Saturday.
