Goal profiles five top contenders for the KPL Golden Boot this season

  • John Makwatta of AFC Leopards vs Sofapaka.

John Mark Makwatta - AFC Leopards

The AFC Leopards striker has been in a good form this season despite the unfortunate situation at the club, who are reeling following the pull-out of SportPesa. Last weekend, Makwatta scored a brace as Ingwe defeated Sofapaka 2-1 in the top tier to reaffirm his goalscoring credentials.

In the 2016 season, the forward scored 15 goals while at Ulinzi Stars and has promised to win the Golden Boot again this year.

Makwatta has set a target of 20 goals this season and with 27 games remaining, the former Buildcon forward can achieve this target.

  • Timothy Otieno of Tusker v Ulinzi Stars.j

    Timothy Otieno - Tusker

The Tusker FC forward is one of the most experienced players in the league and has an advantage over other attackers in the club due to his intelligence on and off the ball.

He also has a fine eye for goal, even if his technique may need improvement.

The former Gor Mahia striker has scored two goals for the club so far this term, and with the likes of Humprey Mieno, Boniface Muchiri, Michael Madoya and Luke Namanda playing alongside him, Otieno should get many opportunities to compete for the Golden Boot.

  • ELVIS Rupia signs for Wazito FC.

    Elvis Rupia - Wazito

Last year, Rupia was in top form, scoring 15 goals for Nzoia Sugar in 22 games before moving to Zambia. After a short stint, he is back in the KPL with Wazito and is aiming at proving he is still the real deal in the attacking department.

Rupia has been sparingly used in the last seven games but has still managed to score two goals. He's lethal in front of goal and dramatically improves Wazito's prospects of getting out of their current slump.

  • NORMAN WERUNGA of Zoo Kericho vs KENNETH MUGUNA of Gor Mahia.

    Kenneth Muguna - Gor Mahia

The Gor Mahia captain has started the 2019/20 season on a bright not and has already bagged four goals from his midfield position, despite recently going AWOL from training.

The 2016 MVP has been playing in an advanced position for his team and it is paying dividends, with the Kenya international able to contribute more in the final third.

It might be hard for him to score 18 or so goals from his midfield position, but with his current form, the skipper may surprise observers.

  • Kakamega Homeboyz striker Allan Wanga.

    Allan Wanga - Kakamega Homeboyz

Last season, the veteran striker was on target 17 times alongside Umaru Kasumba of Sofapaka and Enosh Ochieng of Ulinzi Stars, with the trio sharing the Golden Boot.

The striker is experienced and he still has a lot to offer in the Kenyan Premier League.

This season, the evergreen Wanga has already scored three goals and is optimistic about getting more. You cannot rule him out of the race to win the Golden Boot.
