Why outsiders Arsenal are worth backing in the Community Shield against Liverpool

Liverpool are seen as strong favourites to defeat Arsenal in their Community Shield clash on August 30.

The reigning Premier League champions are valued at 1.30 with Sportsbet to lift the trophy, while the Gunners can be backed at an attractive 3.20.

Jurgen Klopp's side lost this same match last season against Manchester City on penalties after the game had ended 1-1.

Arsenal, meanwhile, booked their place in the Community Shield after beating Chelsea 2-1 in the FA Cup final earlier this month.

With both sides only just starting their respective pre-seasons, expect a scrappy affair at Wembley with 2.25 odds of under 2.5 goals being scored presenting good value should both sides struggle to find their feet in the final third.

Reds star Mohamed Salah is deemed the most likely to open the scoring at 4.33 with team-mate Sadio Mane not too far behind at 4.50. Arsenal's most likely threat to open the scoring is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who can be backed at 6.00 to strike first.

While the Gunners are deemed outsiders, they did defeat Liverpool last time they met in the Premier League with Mikel Arteta overseeing a surprise 2-1 victory in July.

Arsenal also ended last season winning four straight games in all competitions and they will be hoping that momentum could give them an edge against the Reds.

Having only recently lifted the FA Cup, the Gunners will remember exactly how to approach a game like this and should have the necessary confidence to cause an upset.
