Janjetovic sent off in Sydney derby after unbelievable brain fade

In one of the worst passages of goalkeeping in A-League history, Western Sydney Wanderers shotstopper Vedran Janjetovic was sent off with his team leading 1-0 in the derby against Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium.

After Oriol Riera put the dominant Wanderers ahead on 23 minutes, barely 180 seconds later Janjetovic needlessly charged out of his area to confront a contest between teammate Josh Risdon and Sky Blue marquee Adam Le Fondre near the sideline.

The Wanderers goalkeeper failed to impact on the duel, and Le Fondre managed to wriggle free with the ball to have a sight at an unguarded net with opposition defenders scrambling back.

Le Fondre curled a shot toward the goal and Janjetovic inexplicably palmed the ball with his hands while still clearly outside the penalty area.

Referee Jarred Gillett had no choice but to send Janjetovic and leave the Wanderers to attempt to defend their lead for nearly 70 minutes.
