Two of Spain’s biggest clubs – Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid – will lock horns on 15 August in the UEFA Super Cup. The contest preludes European club competition for the season, and pits the winners of the previous season’s Champions League against the Europa League current holders.
The match highlights the current dominance of Spanish football and serves almost as a preview to the upcoming La Liga campaign as much as continental competition. Real, to put their recent success into context, have won this competition in three of the last four seasons.

Where can I win money in this tie?
Given their recent history, it is understandable why Real Madrid come into this tie as the slight favourites to make it four Super Cup triumphs in five years. Looking at the simplest bet you can make on this encounter – who will lift the trophy – Real come in at just 1.70, with Atletico at the slightly higher price of 2.05, according to Oddsshark.
Atlético, however, will fancy their chances of causing an upset. Looking at last season’s La Liga table, Diego Simeone’s side finished one place and three points above their city rivals.
Atlético won more games, lost fewer matches and conceded far fewer goals than Real last term. If they are to win this match they will look to play to their strengths – keeping things compact across the back line and in the middle, before hitting with dangerous precision on the counter attack.
Looking at a result inside 90 minutes, Real are again at the shorter price of 2.30. However, you could potentially more than triple your money by backing Atlético at 3.10, with a stalemate after 90 minutes the highest of all three possibilities at 3.25.
It is of course never easy trying to predict the exact score line of any given game, but a 1-0 win for Atlético is priced competitively at 8.50 That means a US$5 initial bet would lead to a pay out of US$42.50.
However, if Real get their noses in front then Atlético will be forced to come out of their shell. Given the firepower that the Champions League winners possess they could then take this game away from their opponents in a matter of minutes, just as they did in the final of the UEFA Champions League back in 2014, which ended in a 4-1 win for Real after extra time.
While this game may not have quite so many goals, a 3-1 win for Real Madrid is priced high at 21.00 That means a US$5 bet would lead to a pay out of over US$100.
But given the fact that this will be the first competitive fixture for both clubs this season, you may find it difficult to gauge just how they will start. Will one side hit the ground running, or will they need a little time to find their rhythm?
For that reason you may think it a safer bet to opt for the “Double Chance” option, which allows you to opt for two possible outcomes to the match rather than just one. You can back either Real Madrid to win or for the match to end in a stalemate at just 1.38.
An Atlético win or a draw sees that price rise slightly to 1.61. Meanwhile, you can back either side to pick up the win inside 90 minutes at just 1.35.
Real will of course be under the stewardship of former Spain boss Julen Lopetegui for the first time in a competitive fixture. No doubt keen to make his mark against old rivals, he may well want his players to start this game at a frenetic pace.
You can therefore back Real to be ahead within 10 minutes at a price of 10.00, offering a possible ten-fold return on any investment. The chances of Atlético going ahead within 10 minutes are slightly longer at 12.00.
Alternatively, you can make a simpler bet based solely on whether the first 10 minutes will see a goal or not. Over 0.5 goals in that time frame comes in at 4.50, while a goalless first 10 minutes is at the far shorter price of 1.18.
Odds (after 90 minutes): Real Madrid (2.30), Atlético Madrid (3.10), draw (3.25)
