Bengaluru FC players Thongkhosiem Haokip and Nishu Kumar have extended their respective contracts with the club on Tuesday. They have put pen to paper on two-year deals which would extend their stay at the Garden City club until 2020.
Thongkhosiem, or Semboi Haokip as he is popularly known as, was picked up by Bengaluru FC at the 2017 Indian Super League (ISL) player’s draft. He played just two matches in the ISL but was an integral part of the squad in the AFC Cup. He had also scored three goals for the club in continental competition.
A product of the Pune FC academy, Haokip made his professional debut for Pune FC in the I-League back in 2013. The 25-year-old striker has also played for ISL sides FC Goa and Kerala Blasters. Before joining Bengaluru, he had played for Kolkata giants East Bengal.
Young left-back Nishu Kumar is a part of the Bengaluru FC side since 2015. He came to prominence under Albert Roca. The defender scored a brace in his side’s win over Abahani Limited in their final AFC Cup Group match which also secured their place in the knock-out stage.
After signing the two-year contract extension Nishu said, “I am delighted to extend my stay at a club where I have grown with every passing training session. I’ve had to fight for my chances this season and that’s always a good sign because you’re working harder than you would have. The management, coaching staff, dressing room and the fans have always been so supportive of me and I think this was an easy decision to make.”
