The Covert Agent: Scott Galloway close to joining Melbourne City

Adelaide United full-back Scott Galloway is close to agreeing to terms with Melbourne City for the next A-League season.

The Covert Agent can reveal the 24-year-old has currently decided against re-signing with the Reds - the club who helped rejuvenate his career after joining from Wellington Phoenix in the off-season.

Galloway has been one of the league's most impressive full-backs, scoring one goal and laying on four assists in his 27 regular season matches.

Adelaide is believed to be disappointed in the probable departure of Galloway, who they thought was going to extend his stay in South Australia after initial discussions with the player's management.

Galloway, who has been playing left-back this season, will likely replace Melbourne City's marquee right-back Richie De Laet, who will return to parent club Aston Villa when his loan ends at the conclusion of the campaign.

He began his career with City's rivals Melbourne Victory in 2013, before moving on for single seasons at Central Coast and the Phoenix between 2016-18.

The mooted transfer adds extra spice to the Sunday's elimination between the Reds and City at Coopers Stadium - especially considering the volume of player movement between the two clubs over the past few seasons.

City has raided the Reds on a number of occasions over the years, poaching several players including Eugene Galekovic, Stefan Mauk, Bruce Kamau, Iacopo La Rocca, Osama Malik, Jacob Melling and Ruon Tongyik.
