The Covert Agent: Melbourne City in talks to sign Mark Birighitti

Melbourne City are looking to secure a new goalkeeper with Australian shot stopper Mark Birighitti in talks to join Warren Joyce's side.

The Covert Agent can reveal the 27-year-old is close to an A-League return after spending two years in Europe.

Birighitti, who has played previously for Adelaide United and Newcastle Jets, secured a move to Swansea City in 2016 but never made a senior appearance for the club before being transferred to Dutch side NAC Breda a year later.

Though getting more game time in the Eredivisie, he has struggled for form and was on the wrong end of a 5-0 loss in Brada's opening match of the 2018/19 season.

With negotiations with City close to completion, The Covert Agent can also reveal that City's current number one Dean Bouzanis is being shopped around to make room for Birighitti.

Joyce's side still also have veteran shot stopper Eugene Galekovic contracted so will need to shed one of them should Birighitti decide to put pen to paper.

The Perth-born keeper has one Socceroos cap to his name and was close to joining German giants Bayer Leverkusen in 2014.
