The Covert Agent: Adelaide talent Jordan O'Doherty close to joining Western Sydney Wanderers

Adelaide United midfielder Jordan O'Doherty looks set to move to Western Sydney Wanderers, with reports of a transfer to Brisbane Roar incorrect.

The Covert Agent can reveal the 20-year old has a two-year contract on the table for next season from the Wanderers and Josep Gombau - his former coach with the Australian under 23's.

Gombau believes the talented midfielder's versatility to play both centrally and wide would be a huge asset to his squad.

It's understood Adelaide are keen to re-sign Doherty but salary cap pressures means his value on the open market is higher than what they can offer.

Original reports suggested O'Doherty was in the frame for a switch to John Aloisi's Roar, but they are yet to approach the Melbourne-born player.

The Covert Agent exclusively revealed a month ago that Melbourne City duo Bruce Kamau and Ruan Tongyik were going to move to the Wanderers, and along with Marcelo Carrusca, O'Doherty would be the fourth former Adelaide player to join Gombau's revolution in Western Sydney.

O'Doherty has played 11 times for the Reds this season but was interestingly left out of the squad during Friday night's 1-1 draw against Melbourne City - ending a run of nine straight appearances in the league.
