The striker left Shanghai Shenhua feeling extremely short-changed after his spell in the Super League, but he is happy to joke about the situation

Carlos Tevez has laughed off a disastrous year in the Chinese Super League, calling his stay in Asia a "seven-month holiday".

The former Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus star earned a reported $40 million for his year with Shanghai Shenhua after moving from Boca Juniors at the start of 2017.

His move, however, was wholly underwhelming, as the striker played just 20 times for his club and scored a pitiful four goals amid complaints over his unprofessional attitude.

Now back at Boca, Tevez at least he is able to joke about his failed Chinese venture.

"I was on holiday for seven months in China," the former Argentina international laughed when questioned on his Shenhua spell by TyC Sports.

"It's fine for the Shanghai coach and president to criticise me, I didn't know what I was doing there."

As has happened at several points in his much-travelled career, plenty of Boca fans were also irritated by Tevez's decision to walk out on the club in 2017 just 18 months after his much-heralded homecoming to the Bombonera.

Carlitos, however, insists that this second return has wiped the slate clean with those critics.

"I know there are people who were annoyed by how I left, but that's normal," he said.

"I was not in a position to give 100 per cent, but it was going to hurt the fans no matter what I did.

"Now the fans will see me again with the Boca shirt and they will be excited and happy."
