Sundowns attacker Percy Tau not surprised by El Hadji Diouf's comments

With the Senegalese legend El Hadji Diouf having said that Mamelodi Sundowns star Percy Tau has a bright future and can play in Europe, the Bafana Bafana attacker has revealed what he talked about with the former Blackburn Rovers marksman.

Tau said he met the former Liverpool striker in Senegal as Bafana were visiting the West African country in honour of their 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier last year.

Diouf praised the Witbank-born attacker, saying he is something close to former Bafana strikers Benni McCarthy and Sibusiso Zuma.

The Premier Soccer League joint-top goalscorer with 11 goals was speaking to reporters on Thursday ahead of their Nedbank Cup semi-final clash with Maritzburg United on Sunday.

“Look‚ I spoke to Diouf in Senegal, and he expressed his views on my game‚ and what he feels‚” Tau told the media.

“So, I wasn’t surprised by what he said this week. It only shows the good work that I and Sundowns do, and also how the coaches are helping us develop as players because we can easily be compared to European players,” he continued.

“But then that’s always going to be the thing. Whenever you mention a certain [African] player people are going to be looking for comparisons there,” said the speedy forward.

“Sometimes it’s just to give the player confidence and to show him that he’s actually doing more,” he added.

The Brazilians striker though added that he wants to heed Diouf’s advice and keep working hard to realise his dream of playing in European leagues.

“I don’t know (why I still play in the PSL). The future will always reveal itself. I will see with time‚” Tau added.

“I hope one day he (Diouf) will be happy with what he said. I hope one day he’ll be proud that he said those words to this boy and look at him now,” he reacted.

“But we’ll always see with time. Even if I don’t get to play overseas, it’s not easy – you see a lot of players who have not,” concluded the 2016 Caf Champions League winner.
