Australian winger Robbie Kruse is pushing his case for a spot in the Socceroos squad for the 2018 World Cup and backed it up with a crucial goal overnight.
Playing on the left flank, the 29-year-old scored Bochum's second goal in a 2-1 upset over league leaders Dusseldorf who Kruse incidentally played for between 2011 and 2013.
Coming on the break in the 75th minute, Kruse's goal saw him tuck the ball between the keeper's legs having made a good dart forward to claim the through pass.
Bochum's win moves them up to sixth and within touching distance of a promotion spot with the top two clubs automatically going up to the Bundesliga and third going into a play-off.
Only used as a substitute in new Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk's first two games in charge, Kruse has had one his best club seasons to date and now has five goals from 25 games.
Kruse began his career in the A-League playing for Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory before moving to Germany with Dusseldorf in 2011.
