Socceroos Watch: Hat-trick hero Jamie Maclaren earns Hibernian draw against Rangers

The green and gold forward has hit form at the right time

Australian striker Jamie Maclaren continued to press his claims for Socceroos World Cup selection with a stunning hat-trick in Hibernian's 5-5 draw with Rangers on Sunday.

The 24-year-old was named in Australia's 32-man preliminary squad for Russia last week, after missing Dutch coach Bert Van Marwijk's selection for the March friendlies against Norway and Colombia, and faces a battle to be on the plane to football's showpiece event.

With his side 2-0 up after 22 minutes through strikes from Florian Kamberi and Scott Allan, Maclaren headed Hibernian into a three-goal lead after a deft touch crept in at the back post

But Hibernian were stunned by half-time with James Tavernier, Jordan Rossiter and Bruno Alves all finding the back of the net to even up the match.

Things went from bad to worse for Hibernian in the second half as Jason Holt and Josh Windass put Rangers 5-3 ahead with 22 minutes to go.

However it was Maclaren's time to shine, first taking an opportunistic chance in the 70th minute before levelling the game in stoppage time with a tap-in.
