The Ukranian side finished runners-up behind City and ahead of Napoli and Feyenoord to reach the Champions League knockout phase.

"This is the most joyful press conference of my career," Fonseca said.

"I feel great joy. I think not only Shakhtar's supporters but all Ukrainians have to be proud of our team."

The Ukrainian champions could face Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain, Roma, Barcelona, Liverpool, Besiktas or Tottenham following Monday’s last-16 draw.
