Sam Nyamweya: I left FKF better than it is now under Nick Mwendwa

Sam Nyamweya has hit out at the current Football Kenya Federation regime led by Nick Mwendwa, with claims that they have run down the sport.

In an interview with Citizen TV, the former Football Kenya Federation boss says his successor has failed to deliver on the promises they gave to Kenyans and that the sport is now 'headed to the dogs'.

"Kenyan football is now in a very bad shape. It is actually dead. I left the sport in good shape but that is not the case now. We are in trouble if nothing tangible is done to improve the sport," said Nyamweya.

"We left many things functioning at the federation but that is not the case at the moment. Things have changed for the worse and I hope something will be done as soon as possible to revive the sport."

Not done, Nyamweya also lashed out at Mwendwa for interfering with the functions of the Kenyan Premier League. "I am on record to have streamlined the relationship between Kenyan Premier League and Football Kenya Federation and we had an agreement that the league body runs the league for five years without any interference but that isn't happening."

The veteran administrator, however, refused to state whether he will contest against Mwendwa in the forthcoming football elections set for 2020. He explained though that he remains keen to be active in the sport.

"I cannot comment on the next election at the moment. I am more interested in football activities in the country because of Mwendwa.

"It was wrong for him to take me to court. I feel that I could have stayed longer and served for another five-year term to complete my projects but I don't have regrets for stepping down."
