According to reports, there is a three-year deal on the cards in a transfer that will mark his return to Italy, two years after leaving AC Milan for Spanish club UD Las Palmas.
Boateng joined current side Frankfurt in summer last year after terminating a permanent three-year contract he signed with Las Palmas just three months earlier following an initial one-year deal.
He also played a crucial role to help The Eagles win the German Cup.
He has two more years left on his contract.
Boateng had two separate spells with Milan between 2010 and 2016.
In his first, he spent three years with the Rossoneri, winning the Serie A title in 2010-11 and the Super Cup in 2011-12.
He rejoined the outfit on a short-term deal in 2016 following termination of his contract by German club Schalke 04.
