Reading’s Yakou Meite reflects on tough Ipswich Town challenge

Reading forward Yakou Meite has admitted that Ipswich Town proved difficult to play in Saturday’s English Championship game.

The winger scored twice to help Paul Clement’s men battle from behind to secure a 2-2 draw.

The result extended their unbeaten run to two games and the 22-year-old, who acknowledged their poor start against Ipswich, is upbeat that the feat will help boost their confidence.

“I wanted us to win the game – it was a tough game," Meite told club website.

"We started the game badly but afterwards, we kept going and we scored the second goal, so it’s a good draw.

“We wanted to win, but we didn’t lose so that’s good for us.

“The manager said he wasn’t happy at half-time because it was a poor first half, but it was a much better second half and we got the equaliser five minutes before the end of the game.

“Now it’s two games [consecutively] where we haven’t lost so that’s good for the confidence."

The former Sochaux player - though displeased they failed to clinch the maximum points - is delighted with his brace in the encounter.

“I’m very happy to score to help my team-mates, I think it’s better when I score and we win but today we drew, I’m happy but it’s better when we win," he added.

“Of course it’s still important to score because I equalised in the second half, so this goal was very important and I’m happy today – not 100% but I’m happy.”

Meite has now scored seven goals this season and will hope to continue the form when Reading take on Wigan Athletic on November 25.
