Raila Odinga challenges Harambee Stars to qualify for 2022 World Cup

Odinga said that Kenyans have been starved of top flight football for a long time

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has challenged Harambee Stars to qualify for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.

Speaking after receiving Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama in his office, Odinga said that Kenyans have been starved of top football for a long time and that the country should do everything humanly possible to ensure that Stars book their maiden appearance at the World Cup.

“As a country, we need to do football promotion. I don’t believe that there are better talents in other African countries than in Kenya.

“We are seeing what other countries are able to achieve. Now Kenyans are just spectators when some of the best players are on show in Russia. A player like Victor (Wanyama) should have been in Moscow playing at the World Cup.

“I want to put this as a challenge and ensure that next time when the World Cup takes place in Qatar, Kenyan will be there, playing,” said the opposition leader.

But even before coach Sebastien Migne starts thinking about the Qatar dream, the Frenchman will first have to think of booking a place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

How Harambee Stars will perform during the qualifiers, starting with the next match against Ghana in September will have a significant, whether the 2022 dream will be actualized or not.
