Western Australia are looking to lure another Premier League giant to their state

Just days after drawing 55,000 football fans to Optus Stadium to watch Chelsea defeat Perth Glory 1-0, Western Australia's State Government has begun negotiations with Manchester United for a similar pre-season fixture next year.

The West Australian reports that talks with the Red Devils have begun with Tourism WA leading the charge.

With Chelsea's clash selling out on Monday, Tourism Minister Paul Papalia admitted they are looking into future opportunities at Optus Stadium with Premier League sides a clear target.

"We are always exploring options for events in the State, including international sporting fixtures for Optus Stadium, but discussions with other EPL clubs are in the early stages,” Papalia told The West Australian .

"It is the first time we’ve hosted an international soccer team at Optus Stadium and the experience has given us some valuable insight for the future, such as holding this type of event in a World Cup year makes it difficult for clubs to confirm player lists.

"The Chelsea v Perth Glory match ... attracted a lot of valuable media attention across Australia and in the United Kingdom."

Manchester United, who are currently in America for the International Champions Cup, are no strangers to Australia having last come Down Under in 2013.

That trip saw them take on an A-League All Stars side with the Red Devils claiming a 5-1 win in front of 83,000 at ANZ Stadium.

A 20-year-old Jesse Lingard, Danny Welbeck and Robin van Persie the scorers for United that day with Besart Berisha finding some consolation for the A-League contingent.
