Harambee Stars took to the pitch on Thursday to play Uganda Cranes, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
With Chan 2018 coming up next year, the fans expected coach Stanley Okumbi to try out a team comprising of the local-based players but that was not the case. The former Mathare United tactician is upset that his charges lost concentration later on but he was happy with the development made.
"Initially, the plan was to give local-based players a chance to show what they are capable of, but we changed our mind. We felt that they were not fit enough considering the league had just started, so we had to mix them with the foreign-based players.
"I’m still not happy with what happened, we could have won the match against Uganda but we wasted many chances and later conceded a cheap goal," he told Goal.
The Stars will play DR Congo on Sunday at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
