Napoli’s Koulibaly named in Serie A Team of the Year

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been named in the 2017 Serie A Team of the Year by the Italian Footballers’ Association.

The former Metz and Genk defender, was influential in helping Maurizio Sarri’s men finish third in the Italian top-flight last campaign, with his brilliant defensive contributions.

The Senegal international scored two goals in 28 league appearances as the Light Blues picked up 86 points from 38 league games in the 2016-17 season.

Koulibaly teams up with Leonardo Bonucci, Alex Sandro and former Juventus defender Dani Alves to make up the league’s Best XI backline.

The 26-year-old is joined by teammates Marek Hamsik and Dries Merten in the squad while his manager, Maurizio Sarri won the Coach of the Year award.

Napoli currently sit at the summit of the Serie A with 38 points with 14 games and will be aiming to continue their unbeaten run when they welcome Juventus for Friday’s league encounter.
