Mohamed Salah seals win for Egypt in five-goal thriller against Tunisia

The Liverpool star notched a last-gasp effort that secured maximum points for the Pharaohs at the Borg El Arab Stadium on Friday

Mohamed Salah scored the match-winning goal for Egypt in their 3-2 victory over Tunisia.

Although both countries have secured their spots in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to hold in Cameroon, Friday’s encounter was a harvest of goals in Alexandria.

Naim Sliti opened the scoring for Tunisia in the 11th minute but Kasimpasa winger Mahmoud Trezeguet ensured both teams headed to the interval levelled with his 32nd-minute effort.

Baher El Mohamadi put Egypt ahead on the hour mark before Dijon forward Sliti equalized for the Carthage Eagles with his brace 12 minutes later.

Salah combined with Al Ahly's Salah Mohsen to give Javier Aguirre's side a late win which also avenged their 1-0 loss in the first leg of the fixture in June 2017.

Despite the result, Egypt and Tunisia are joint leaders of Group J with 12 points from five matches.

The Pharaohs will round up their qualification campaign with a fixture against Niger while Tunisia take on Eswatini in March 2019.
