The Team of Choice continue to bolster their squad as they look to avoid a repeat of the tumultuous 2018/19 campaign

Maritzburg United have announced the signing of Bidvest Wits midfielder Phumlani Ntshangase on a season-long loan deal.

The 24-year-old spent the 2018/19 Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign out on loan at SuperSport United where he made 17 league appearances.

However, Ntshangase returned to Braamfontein following the conclusion of the campaign, and he has now been shipped out to Maritzburg ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Ntshangase now becomes the latest signing by the club after the signings of Kwanda Mngonyama and Judas Moseamedi from Cape Town City.

Maritzburg are desperate to rewrite the wrongs of the past season which saw them survive courtesy of the PSL relegation/promotion playoffs, and head coach Eric Tinkler and his technical team have been on the lookout to find players who can do a job for the club.

Nonetheless, with the likes of Siphesihle Ndlovu and Fortune Makaringe set to depart, the door will be open for Ntshangase to take his place in the KwaZulu-Natal outfit’s midfield.

“We welcome Phumlani to the Team of Choice, he's a local KZN boy and we expect to him to settle in well at our club,” Maritzburg’s chairman Farook Kadodia said in a statement issued by the club on their website.

“A quality, well-rounded midfielder, Ntshangase will bring some different and exciting options to the game-plan of the head coach,” Kadodia added.

“I met Phumlani and found him to have a well-disciplined background – a player’s character is a key aspect, and we’re confident he’ll add good value to our team,” he concluded.

With the signing of Ntshangase now complete, it remains to be seen who else will join the side.
