Manyama: Cape Town City can win the PSL title next season

Goal spoke to the Citizens captain about his side's impressive first campaign in the elite league

Cape Town City captain Lebogang Manyama admits they will have their work cut out next season following their successful campaign.

“We have to improve firstly from the previous season. I wouldn’t say it was a tough season because not many people knew what to expect from us. So, we surprised many people,” Manyama told Goal.

The 26-year-old forward, who is a major favourite for this season's PSL Player of the Year award, believes that they lost matches at the wrong time.

“Unfortunately, we lost at the wrong time so it’s a learning curve, but its good we have improved. Hopefully, we can go one better next season,” he said.

The Citizens have managed to qualify for next year's Caf Confederations Cup by earning a top-three finish in their first year of existence.

Manyama who won the club’s Player of the Year award on Friday, admits this has been his best season since turning professional.

“It has been the best season of my career based on how I contributed to the team, I played a bigger role in the team.

"But I had a season at Ajax where we came second (in the 2010/11 season). That’s also a season I will never forget, but this season I played a much bigger role and I made more impact,” Manyama concluded.
