The five-time Ballon d'Or winner is in exceptional scoring form and we think he will net once more against Premier League opposition on Wednesday

Lionel Messi makes another visit to England on Wednesday evening and the Barcelona forward has been utterly prolific against Premier League sides over the years.

Messi has netted 22 times in 29 matches against clubs from the English top-flight in the Champions League, with two of those goals coming against Manchester United.

The 31-year-old heads to Old Trafford aiming to improve that record and his recent form suggests there is every chance he can do so, with Messi scoring in each of his last six matches for the Blaugrana.

Latest odds

Barcelona's number 10 is priced at 7/10 (1.70) with William Hill to score at anytime in Manchester and the Argentine is the tournament's leading scorer this season with eight goals. However, Messi has not scored past the last 16 stage in the Champions League since May 2015.

Nevertheless, the Argentina international is at the top of his game and his status as free-kick and penalty taker also inreases the chances of him scoring. The man from Rosario offered at 29/10 (3.90) to score two or more.

Messi is understandably the shortest priced player in the anytime scorer market ahead of his team mate Luis Suarez who is offered at 6/5 (2.20) to net his first Champions League goal since scoring against Roma over a year ago.

United's options

Messi this season in the Champions League has scored more goals than Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba combined.

Indeed, United have only scored one goal at home in their four European matches this season and that was an injury time winner from Marouane Fellaini against Young Boys.

Lukaku is the shortest priced player for the hosts to score at 17/10 (2.70) with Martial and Rashford both offered at 2/1 (3.00) and Pogba at 11/5 (3.20)

Golden Goal

William Hill are running their Golden Goal promotion on Wednesday's clash at Old Trafford. This offer sees bets on either team in the match odds market settled as winners if the chosen team score the first goal, regardless of the final result. T&Cs apply.

For example, anyone backing Barcelona to win the game at 19/20 (1.95) would see their first wager settled as winner in cash, up to £50 (plus qualifying stake) should the visitors score first, even if they don't go on the win the game. Likewise any United backers would be entitled to the same pay out were Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men to break the deadlock.

Tips and predictions

It is hard to look past backing Messi in some way to get on the scoresheet, and the price of 5/2 (3.50) for him to open the scoring as he did in the previous round against Lyon could appeal.

The in-form forward is also available at 13/10 (2.30) to score Barca's first goal and at 7/1 (8.00) to score in both halves.
