Mainz 05 forward Anthony Ujah has expressed delight after returning to the German Bundesliga, on the back of a difficult experience in China.

The former Werder Bremen and FC Cologne forward moved to the Opel Arena outfit from Chinese Super League side Liaoning FC for an undisclosed fee in December.

And the Nigeria international disclosed his difficult ordeal in China where he notched 10 goals in 39 games in two seasons.

“The huge distances were difficult. Three, four hours flight to each away game, and we, on many occasions, we had to arrive at match venues two days before. Private jets could not do much to help out,” Ujah told Bild.

"I wanted to leave in the summer. But then the club did not let me, because we were in a relegation battle.

"I finally called 05-sports chief Schröder. I know him from the time near Bremen, who played a big role in my decision for Mainz."

Despite going to Asia in an effort to ‘secure’ his family, Ujah revealed that he was hungry to return to the German top-flight.

"I also wanted to support my family in Nigeria, secure them."

"Money is not everything! I missed the many fans in the stadium, the love and hunger for the Bundesliga football was bigger!"

The 27-year-old who broke his duck in the O-fives friendly encounter against St. Gallen on Saturday is raring to play more games and score goals to help Sandro Schwarz’s men who are two points above the relegation zone.

"I'm a fighter, I want to play, score goals."

Mainz 05 are placed 15th in the Bundesliga table with 17 points from 17 games.
