The experienced coach explained why the 22-year-old is different from other South African players

South Africa coach Stuart Baxter has praised Lebo Mothiba ahead of Bafana Bafana's clash with Seychelles on Saturday.

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier will be played at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Bafana are heading into this encounter having failed to score in their previous Afcon game which ended in a 0-0 draw against Libya in Durban last month.

Baxter is now banking on Mothiba to help the national team score goals against the Islanders.

“Lebo isn’t typically South African and I say this with all due respect to all the other players in the country," Baxter told the reporters.

Mothiba was nurtured in the Mamelodi Sundowns academy and Diambars football academy before moving to French Ligue 1 with OSC Lille, who then sold him to RC Strasbourg three months ago.

"He is a target player. He holds people off and is an unpleasant boy to play against with a nose for goal," he continued.

The English tactician has been impressed by the former South Africa youth international's consistency at training as they prepare for their clash with The Pirates.

“We want him to be natural and we want him to understand how we want to play but also we have to understand how he plays," Baxter added.

The Strasbourg striker has been in good form this season having netted five goals in nine French Ligue 1 matches and he looks set to lead Bafana's attack this weekend.

"He will only get better and better. So, I don’t think that we should put unnecessary pressure on him, but he is a strong boy and has shown this week that his standards have been quite level and hasn’t had one great training session and one bad one," he concluded.

The return leg clash between Bafana and Seychelles will be played next week Tuesday at the Stade Linite in Vitoria.
