A section of Kenyan fans were left divided right in the middle after Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama was pictured training with Tottenham despite snubbing the national team call-up.

Wanyama was pictured alongside Spur’s non-internationals in Thursday’s training session.

The midfielder failed to honour Harambee Stars call-up ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Ghana.

The Kenyan skipper is yet to play a competitive match for over four months due to a recurrence of the same injury before the start of the season while on tour with Spurs in the US.

Wanyama just resumed training barely two weeks ago after three-week lay off with a knee injury.

While Wanyama couldn’t have been of much significance to Stars coach Sebastien Migne on Saturday, some Kenyans believe that the skipper’s presence, even on the bench, could have been a morale booster to the players.

“We all know Wanyama is not match fit, but at least he should have shown up, then the coach rule him out of the game,” said one fan.

Another fan added: “His presence even on the bench was very important to the rest of the squad.”

“Wanyama is still not match fit to feature for Kenya at the moment, why should he travel then sit on the bench when the coach can use have the additional option?” said John Mwangi.
