5:13 pm AEST 11/8/18
Itumeleng Khune, Kaizer Chiefs, August 2018
The Glamour Boys are under pressure to win their first trophy in three years, and the MTN8 presents Giovanni Solinas with the chance to win something

Kaizer Chiefs have already conceded four goals in their first two league matches, but they cannot afford to give away cheap goals against Free State Stars

Amakhosi are known for their cup pedigree, but things have not gone their way in the past three seasons.

They face Ea Lla Koto at the FNB Stadium looking for revenge, but most importantly keen to make it passed the quarter-final stage of the MTN8.

Luc Eymael's side stunned Chiefs 2-0 the last time these two teams met at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, and the Belgian mentor will hope for a repeat of the same performance this time around.

Squads & Team News

Position Missing players
Midfielders George Maluleka (injured), Dax (work permit)

George Maluleka will miss this clash through injury, but Solinas has too many players to choose from against Ea Lla Koto.

Wiseman Meyiwa, Siphelele Ntshangase and Hendrick Ekstein are some of the players who can fill in for the former SuperSport United just in front of Willard Katsande.

Andriamirado Aro Hasina ‘Dax’ Andrianarimanana is yet to acquire his work permit, and therefore will also not be availale for selection.

Apart from the two players, the Amakhosi technical team has a team that can do the job on the day.

Potential Chiefs XI: Khune; Mphahlele, Ntiya-Ntiya, Cardoso, Mathoho; Katsande, Ntshagase, Tshabalala; Parker, Billiat, Castro.

Free State Stars have not reported any injuries from their camp, meaning it's up to coach Eymael to put together a team that will do battle against Chiefs.

Eymael though has lost a few players who were key to the club's success last season.

Siphelele Mthembu and Mohamed Anas have both left, but they have signed some good players to take over from where the duo left off last term.

Potential FS Stars XI: Sangare, Tema, Keita, Mobbie, Maruping, Jappie, Makhaula, Dlamini, Masehe, Tchilimbou, Rodgers.

Match Preview

Chiefs have dominated this fixture in the past, but they have struggled to beat Stars in recent years.

In head-to-head stats, the two teams have met 20 times to date, with Chiefs winning a whopping 12 games to Stars' three, while the other three have ended in draws.

On average, Chiefs scored 1.8 goal per match to Stars' 1.1 per match.

However, Stars have proven to be Amakhosi's hoodoo team in cup matches having ousted them in the 2016 Telkom Knockout Cup and again in the 2018 Nedbank Cup.
