Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has confirmed that they have added a new player to their squad for the second half of the season.

However, the Amakhosi boss gave little away when asked who the player was. He only revealed that they player is from outside the country without elaborating.

Chiefs have been assessing defender Pedro DeAmorim and Italian striker Gustavo Paez, and media reports suggest that the latter has put pen to paper.

"We have signed one and we will make other announcements; [he] is from outside [the country]," Motaung told reporters at the PSL and SuperSport's 10-year anniversary celebration on Saturday.

The Soweto giants had been on the lookout for a quality striker since the beginning of the season, and with Camaldine Abraw still struggling with an injury, Paez's signing would be a welcome relief to the majority of Amakhosi fans.

The 26-year-old hasn't really had a stable career having played for 11 different teams in the last 11 years.

He was previously on the books of Venezuelan club Estudiantes de Mérida where featured 32 times and scored nine goals before coming to try his luck in South Africa.

Paez will compete with the likes of Bernard Parker and Michelle Katsvairo among others for a place in the starting line-up.

Chiefs are expected to make an official announcement before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
