Kaizer Chiefs' Ryan Moon willing to wait for his chance

The Amakhosi star is not too fussed about falling down the pecking order and will continue to work hard for a place in Solinas' squad

Ryan Moon is biding his time at Kaizer Chiefs as competition for places in head coach Giovanni Solinas’ squad is stiff.

Moon was one of Amakhosi’s brightest sparks last season in a campaign with not a lot to be proud of for the Soweto giants.

However, with former coach Steve Komphela now out of the picture and Solinas having been roped in, not to mention the star-studded attack that Chiefs acquired in the off-season, Moon has failed to command a permanent spot.

“Look, this is football. Sometimes you up and sometimes you are down. The most important thing is to work hard and put God first and don’t change how you were working before. Stick to the same routine and keep working hard. Your time will come and when it comes you must be ready,” Moon was quoted as saying by The Mercury.

“You’ve got to be patient in this game. You got to be humbled, you got to wait for your chance,” he continued.

Moon has made just four league appearances for Chiefs this season as the likes of Khama Billiat, Lebogang Manyama and Gustavo Paez among others have all been preferred in attack.

“Two factors that are keeping me going. One is God and secondly is the family support. My support base has been good. They have done it before with Bryce (his elder brother) when things were not going well for him. They know how to handle me. They have been great so far,” Moon elaborated.

“I learn everyday under them. It is all about learning and bring that into my own game. In as much as they are good players, I’m also a good player. The most important thing is competition. The competition is great. We all have to keep on working hard,” Moon concluded.

Nonetheless, after featuring and scoring for Chiefs’ MultiChoice Diski Challenge side this past weekend, the 22-year-old would have hoped to impress the Italian-born mentor.

Chiefs are set to take on Black Leopards in their Telkom Knockout Cup opener, and Moon will hope to be among the matchday squad.
