After their disappointing loss in Sudan, the Promise Keepers need a big home win to progress to the group phase

Akwa United's Gabriel Wassa is upbeat about his side chances of reaching the Caf Confederation Cup group phase despite their Sunday's 2-0 loss to Al-Hilal.

Geovani and Hussein Jeraf's strikes in the first half were all the Sudanese Premier League giants required to silence the Nigerian Federation Cup winners at the Al-Hilal Stadium in Omdurman.

And the defender, who was unhappy about their defeat in Sudan, admitted that his side were not good enough but is urging his mates to put up a clinical display in Uyo to ensure their progress.

"We are definitely not happy to lose because that was not our target going to Sudan," Wassa told Goal.

"We were not at our best and clearly everyone in the team are bothered by the loss. But we can't just accept that we are out because I think that it is not over yet for us.

"We need to learn from the result of the first leg and turn the page quickly to focus our next league game before the second leg at home against Al-Hilal.

“In Uyo, it only depends on us. We need to start thinking about winning. From the beginning until the end, we must think about scoring and play our football.

"In this situation, we have a chance to go qualify but we must do a lot to achieve it. We have not been playing really well like we've done in the league. So, we need to step up."

Before the second leg with Al-Hilal, Akwa United will face Rivers United in a rescheduled Nigerian topflight encounter at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium on Thursday.
