The experienced defender expressed his frustration at the level of officiating in the ISL…

Kerala Blasters haven’t registered a single win since their opening day triumph in Kolkata where they downed ATK 2-0. Since then, the Kerala-based outfit have picked up four points and saw their unbeaten start to the fifth edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) come to an end as they went down 2-1 to Bengaluru FC.

Sunil Chhetri scored the opening goal in the 17th minute as he latched on to a first time pass by Miku to get beyond Sandesh Jhingan and find the back of the net. The linesman failed to raise his flag as Chhetri was clearly a yard or so offside.

Jhingan was visibly distraught and in the aftermath of the defeat, he shared his thoughts on the inexplicable decision. He went on to mention that the refereeing decisions have come to hurt his team quite a few times in the ongoing season. The 25-year-old also asked a valid question as to what was being done to improve the standard of refereeing in the ISL.

“It was a tough one. I haven't seen it through the cameras but I heard it was offside. (I am) Very pissed about that. The game against Delhi the first goal conceded...I don't want to say it openly but after six games, it is the third time. The owners are spending so much money, we are sacrificing so many things.  Not giving any statement as I can get fined and all. We need to rectify that (refereeing errors).

“I know it's a tough job. But what are we doing to rectify it? What are we doing to improve it? After every game, it is happening and it is disappointing. The refereeing really needs to improve. To be honest, I am really pissed and disappointed. But (I) can't change it. So congratulations to Sunil (Chhetri) bhai and BFC as they have won,” he told Star Sports.

Jhingan remained positive that his side can still do well this season and that they shall soon bounce back from the disappointment.

“We started well. Of course, we dropped four points at home. But we have been doing well. This shows that the team has heart and character. We bounced back against Jamshedpur. So it shows that we have got characters in the team. I am sure we are going to bounce back,” he mentioned.

Kerala Blasters next have an away fixture next against FC Goa this Sunday.
