East Bengal registered three points as they downed opponents DSK Shivajians 2-1 to pick their first win of the season. Caribbean duo of Wedson Anselme (13') [Pen.] and Willis Plaza (80') scored on either side of Gouramangi Moiranghthem's equaliser (64').
Commenting on the victory, East Bengal coach Trevor Morgan believed that the visitors had a brilliant first half.
''We started off with a diamond formation. I think in the first half we were excellent. We played some good football and created two really good opportunities,'' he said.
Foreign assets Anselme, Plaza and Bukenya put in commendable performance with the first two having registered their names on the score sheet. Morgan stateed that the trio need to continue delivering their best in every game.
''The foreigner players have showed what they can do and now they need to continue producing it further. We have enough quality in the squad but you need to add hard work to that quality because it is essential. We have to work hard in trainings and take it forward in the games,'' stated the 60-year-old.
''Willis (Plaza) is dynamic. He can go pass people very easily as well. We have to make sure we can always get him in an area where he can do that. That’s a test for us now. Hopefully he has understood from today that the higher he stays up on the pitch, the better it is for us,'' he concluded.
As for home team DSK Shivajians, coach Dave Rogers was of the opinion that they didn't deserve to lose the three points. Speaking on the game he said, ''We felt we needed more bodies in the middle of the park for the second goal to stifle their better players. That showed in the second half with the change in formation. We were excellent in the second half and didn't deserve to lose, but that's football.''
Further, he expressed his desire to bring about a change in Indian football by offering more and more chances to the youngsters.
''I want to change Indian football and I'm prepared to play my youngsters players. It is only a matter of time before we click and gel,'' asserted Rogers.
''The match against Chennai City is the next big football match. At the end we approach it with a will to win. We have already started to lay with fluidity and soon we'll gel into a very good unit,'' he signed off.
