Hearts of Oak terminate contracts of Akrofi & Gbeti

Hearts of Oak have mutually parted ways with defender Richard Akrofi and goalkeeper Evans Gbeti, the club have officially announced.

Akrofi, 28, joined the Phobians in January 2016 on a three-year deal and was a regular starter in his first two seasons.

However, reports in the local media suggested that the centre-back couldn't reach an agreement with the club's management following a proposed contract extension since he had only two months left. With the Ghana Premier League also on an indefinite suspension, the centre-back opted to move on.

Gbeti, 26, on the other hand, had struggled for playing time since arriving at the club. He fell down the pecking order behind Benjamin Mensah and Ernest Sowah and last featured for Hearts five months ago.

"The @HeartsOfOakGH management has offered mutual contract termination to goalkeeper, Evans Gbeti and defender, Richard Akrofi,"  a statement by Hearts read on Twitter.

"Hearts thank them for their professional conduct during their stay at the club and wish them well for the future," the statement added.

Goal understands that Akrofi is considering a move outside the country.
