The Serbia-based defender shares his thoughts on the Black Stars' chances of ruling the continent for the fifth time

Ghana and Red Star Belgrade centre-back Rashid Sumaila is the latest Black Stars player to express optimism about the team;s chances of winning the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt

Kwesi Appiah's outfit are on a mission to end a 37-year-trophy drought, the last of their four titles coming in 1982.

Interestingly, the Black Stars have made the semi-final of the last six tournaments, going on to the final in 2010 and 2015.

“We have great players and I feel we can do something very meaningful in Egypt," Sumaila, a member of Ghana's squad at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, told Footballmadeinghana.

“We have come close twice and we can win it this third time if we get to the finals.

"It is always great to serve your nation and we are all ready to offer our quota if we are called.”

Ghana have been drawn against defending champions Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau at the Afcon finals, which runs between June 21 and July 19.

The Black Stars will open their campaign against Benin on June 25, face Cameroon on July 2  and wrap up the first round against Guinea-Bissau, who will be making only their second appearance at the continental showpiece.
