Ghana have asked Caf to consider alternative host cities for the 2018 Africa Women's Cup of Nations due to the slow progress of work at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The 40,000 capacity facility in the national capital, one of two scheduled venues for the biennial championship, is currently undergoing a facelift ahead of the tournament slated for November 17 to December 1.
Media reports after Caf's recent facilities inspection says the continental football governing body is unhappy by the progress of work, and is considering taking the hosting rights from the land of the Black Queens.
“The Accra Sports Stadium is not the only stadium in Ghana that can host the tournament," sports minister Isaac Asiamah was quoted as saying by GNA.
"We have other stadia in Kumasi, Tamale, Cape Coast and Obuasi, which are equally good to host the games.
“We have to get value for money and each penny must benefit us, hence there should be no shoddy work [by the end of the renovation due to a possible rush].
“We have written to the Confederation of African Football to send inspectors to Ghana to inspect the places I have mentioned and they have responded positively.
“I have sent people to inspect the Kumasi and Tamale Sports Stadium and they look good, though we might need only a few things to put the place in good shape."
Reports say South Africa has been lined up as possible replacement should Ghana fail to impress Caf's inspection team on their next visit.
The 15,000 capacity stadium in Cape Coast is the second facility in addition to the Accra Sports Stadium schedule to host the continent in four months.
It will be Ghana's first time of organizing the flagship women's competition.
