Free State Stars have announced the signing of former Orlando Pirates midfielder Nhlakanipho Ntuli and Kaizer Chiefs defender Simphiwe Mtsweni.

Ntuli had been a free agent since Dutch side FC Twete terminated his contract twelve months ago and he underwent an unsuccessful trial stint at Highlands Park late last year.

However, the 20-year-old attacker has since found a new home at Stars, while Mtsweni also joins the club as a free agent after leaving Chippa United earlier this month.

Ea Lla Koto also signed former Bloemfontein Celtic defender Thabang Matuka, Mohamed Anas, who once played for Maritzburd United, as well as unknown striker Allen Dorian Nono.

Stars general manager Rantsi Mokoena explained that they needed to beef up their striking department hence they snapped up Anas and Nono.

“We have made use of the window period and the Afcon break in making sure that we assess and sign five quality players to strengthen the team,” Mokoena told the official Stars website.

“The team is ready to compete in the second round of the season. We were struggling to find the back of the net and we have brought in two quality strikers to help out Sekotlong upfront whose injury is coming well and should be ready in no time," he continued.

“We also struggled a bit on the left hand side but we have also brought in two experience players to compete in that department,” he added.

The Bethlehem-based side also confirmed that they had released Reabetsoe Rakoti, Tshepo Mothiba, David Booysen, Johnny Mathole, Brandon Dean, Hamiss Kizza and Mohamed Aoudou.

“As Free State Stars we would like to wish the players that have left the team the best of luck in their future endeavors and we warmly welcome the new guys," Mokoena concluded.

Stars, who are now coached by Serame Letsoaka, will take on Chiefs in a PSL game at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on February 7.
