Former Socceroos skipper released by Aston Villa

Mile Jedinak's time at Aston Villa has officially come to an end with the Australian among eight players released by the club after they secured promotion to the Premier League.

Villa sealed their return to the top-flight with a play-off final win over Derby County with Jedinak an unused substitute in his last outing for the club.

The 34-year-old, who was coming off contract, made just 18 league appearances for Villa this season with his final kick for the club seeing him slot home a penalty in a semi-final shootout against West Brom.

Jedinak joins Alan Hutton, Tommy Elphick, Albert Adomah, Glenn Whelan, Ritchie De Laet, Mark Bunn and Micah Richards in departing Villa at season's end.

The former Socceroos skipper has been strongly linked with a return to the A-League with expansion side Macarthurs Bulls eager to secure Jedinak as their inaugural marquee when they're introduced to the competition in the 2020-21 season.

Where Jedinak will play next season remains to be seen however with the Aussie previously enjoying stints with Central Coast Mariners, Gençlerbirliği, Antalyaspor and Crystal Palace.

After joining Villa in 2016, Jedinak made 80 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring two goals.
