Former Premier League player Dickson Etuhu is facing a six-year jail term for his role in a match-fixing scandal.

The 36-year-old featured for Manchester City, Preston North End, Norwich, Sunderland, Fulham and Blackburn Rovers before moving to Sweden to join AIK in 2014 as a free agent.

However, the midfielder was accused by his goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos of trying to bribe him to fix a game between AIK and IFK Gothenburg scheduled to be played on May 28, 2017. The game was, however, postponed following the allegation.

On Thursday, Etuhu was scheduled to face trial for the alleged offence at the Stockholm District Court but hitherto denied committing the crime.

"I respect everyone's opinion, but the facts remain the same - it never happened... It's unbelievable that an ordinary conversation with a friend can lead to something like this," Etuhu told Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, per Sky Sport.

If convicted, the former Manchester City midfielder could be hit with six years in jail.
