Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini linked to Brisbane Roar move

Brisbane Roar are on the verge of completing the surprise signing of French midfielder Mathieu Flamini, according to reports.

Fox Sports Daniel Garb revealed a deal with the former Arsenal and AC Milan player are in their final stages on Thursday.

Flamini would likely be the final addition to John Aloisi's side, which has also recruited Adam Taggart and Tobias Mikkelsen among others this off-season

The 34-year-old was most recently with Getafe in Spain but played just eight games after joining in February.

Previous stints with Arsenal, AC Milan and Crystal Palace has seen Flamini pick up two FA Cups and a Serie A title.

Though in the twilight of his career, Flamini would add some sparkle to Roar's side and provide a further marquee boost for the A-League.

Melbourne Victory remain on track to sign Keisuke Honda with the help of funding from the FFA and it remains unclear if Flamini's proposed move will require similar help.

Conflicting reports from AAP journalist Vince Rugari have cast some doubt on the deal and Goal also understands a deal is now unlikely to go through.

Earlier in the week Brisbane were also linked to another French midfielder in the form of Loïc Puyo - a 29-year-old who plays for Angers in Ligue 1.
